Job summary

Relativity Space is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to own the Tube Manufacturing scope for Terran R programs. You will advocate for scalable manufacturing in design reviews, build flow planning, large-volume logistics, tooling design, sourcing, and rapid issue resolution.

You will lead initiatives across assembly, manufacturing, and quality to meet ambitious build rate targets while ensuring safety and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, develop, and stand up cutting-edge bending and welding work cell for Aeon R/Terran R programs.
• Drive assembly-first build and test through design for manufacturability, BOMs, work orders, and specifications.
• Implement tooling solutions to streamline production and reduce complexity.
• Establish standard practices, troubleshooting guides, and repair procedures with document approval.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining quality and reliability.

About the Team:

The Stage Manufacturing team turns design into reality, owning the build of Terran R’s primary structures. This isn’t about turning the same bolt every day; it’s about building the systems to build the rocket. Engineers and technicians work side by side, with deep collaboration and real-time feedback, to shape how we build better and faster. About the Role:

The Tube Manufacturing team is responsible for working alongside the vehicle design and test teams to develop hardware that enables Terran R reusability, working in a variety of processes to manufacture fluid systems hardware for the vehicle. The team is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to own the following scope: advocate for scalable manufacturing in product design trades and reviews, build flow planning, large-volume part logistics, tooling design, conceptualizing & sourcing, fast-paced issue dispositions, and complex mechanical assembly work planning and execution.

• Conceptualize, develop, and stand up a cutting-edge bending and welding work cell capable of meeting the demanding requirements of the Aeon R and Terran R programs.
• Drive assembly first build and test efforts through design for manufacturability guidance, assembly sequencing, mBOM development, build and test work order creation, and specification authoring.
• Implement innovative tooling solutions for both new and existing products, streamlining production to support increased output while reducing operational complexity.
• Establish and enforce standard practices, troubleshooting guides, and standardized repair procedures, with a key responsibility of reviewing and approving planning documents.
• Streamline and optimize existing production systems, proactively identifying areas for cost reduction while enhancing overall quality and efficiency.
• Demonstrate ingenuity and autonomy by introducing novel ideas and implementing them with utmost attention to safety, quality, and reliability, ensuring timely completion of projects.

About You:

• Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering.
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience building and testing hardware in a manufacturing environment (may include internship experience)
• Experience interfacing with design engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel.
• Extensive experience managing large scope of ownership.
• Extensive experience authoring work instructions and/or test procedures for mechanical and/or fluid assemblies.
• Self-starter that has demonstrated the ability to define and own a process from scratch and roll out that process through clear communication to a diverse team.

Nice to haves but not required:

• Understanding of orbital tube welding (OTW), tube bending, TIG welding, metallic fabrication, assembly procedures, and tooling design.
• Strong understanding GD&T and drafting principles.
• Working knowledge of typical manufacturing execution systems and quality management systems.
• Working knowledge of rocket subsystems including structures, mechanisms, high pressure gas systems, and/or avionics.

Hiring Range: $102,000—$156,000 USD
