Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in the United States is seeking a senior fluid systems engineer to design, analyze, and integrate fluid systems for aerospace applications, including pneumatic, cryogenic, thermal, and environmental control systems. You will develop models, conduct experiments, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to ensure safe, repeatable spaceflight.

Relocation provided; travel up to 25%. A four-year aerospace or mechanical engineering degree and 5+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Four-year aerospace or mechanical engineering degree (or similar discipline).
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with solid modelling, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and configuration control of engineering and documentation.
  • Experience understanding fabrication and installation drawings.
  • Knowledge of piping systems components (valves, fittings, welding, etc.).
  • Knowledge of fluid components used in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc.).
  • Ability to collaborate with multi-discipline teams and support design reviews with technical input.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD (Creo preferred) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred).

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, technicians, and specialists, you will design, analyze, and integrate fluid systems for aerospace applications. This role involves the development of pressurized fluid systems from concept through production, including tube routing, component selection, and pressure system structural and safety analysis for flight hardware. The ideal candidate will have experience in fluids and thermal systems, engineering principles, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design, analyze, and test fluid systems including pneumatic, cryogenic, thermal, and environmental control systems.

Good project management skills are vital, including vendor management, scheduling, and budget tracking Author component specifications and manage suppliers through design, development, qualification and delivery of flight hardware

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Four-year aerospace or mechanical engineering degree (or similar discipline)
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience with solid modelling, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and configuration control of engineering and documentation.
  • Experience understanding fabrication and installation drawings.
  • Knowledge of standard components, installation, and fabrication methods of piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, valves, fasteners, structural members, fittings, welding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of typical use, constraints, and specification of fluid components typical in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams composed of multiple roles and disciplines to achieve a common goal.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting mechanical and/or piping systems.
  • Experience with creating process hazards analyses, job hazards analysis and formal risk evaluation.
  • Experience with design and operation of typical aerospace fuel, oxidizer, and high-pressure pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with design, operations, and maintenance of cryogenic systems.
  • Knowledge of precision cleaning processes / levels and passivation of stainless steel
  • Knowledge of marine environment corrosion mitigation (material and coatings selection)
  • Familiarity with test equipment, such as multimeters, dew point meters, vacuum equipment, regulator panels.
  • Work with REFPROP, SINDA/FLUINT and Thermal Desktop or other fluid modeling software
  • Experience troubleshooting fluids hardware
Base Pay Range for:

CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85

WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
