Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a mechanical/aerospace engineer to lead fluids design for lunar transport systems. You will craft CAD models (Creo preferred), generate P&IDs with AutoCAD, and develop fluid hardware specifications including valves and manifolds.

You’ll verify components to rigorous standards and coordinate with subsystems across the vehicle. The role requires 3+ years in aerospace fluid or mechanical design, GD&T proficiency, and hands-on experience with pressurized assemblies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years in design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Creo and AutoCAD for drawings and layouts.
  • Knowledge of hypergolic systems and GD&T ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to perform flow, pressure, structural, and thermal analyses.
  • Familiar with valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Hands-on experience building/testing mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong interface skills between vehicle and subsystems.
  • Understanding of fabrication methods for fluid systems.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication.

Responsibilities

  • Fluids sub-assembly design, CAD development, and part specification.
  • Create specs for fluid/gas components (solenoid valves, manifolds, regulators).
  • Develop interface definitions between fluid systems and subsystems.
  • Design/analyze components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
  • Verify components to company standards via testing.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Fluids sub-assembly design and development, including developing specification and procurement of components, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred), performing trade studies, and analysis of test data.Interpreting and generating Piping and instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
  • Design and/or create specifications for fluid/gas components i.e., solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
  • Design and analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
  • Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience with hypergolic systems
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
  • Proven understand of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between the vehicle and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field
  • Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems
