About Blue Origin

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We are developing reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight.

Role Overview

This role supports the development, design, and operations of the second‑stage fluid systems on the next‑generation New Glenn, a single‑configuration, heavy‑lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low‑Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. You will lead the design, development, analysis, and testing of fluid systems for rockets, engaging in all levels of the design cycle—conceptual design, requirements definition, thermo‑fluid modeling, structural layout and analysis, integration, test, and mission support. Creative thinking and novel manufacturing solutions must solve complex problems involving high pressure, cryogenic temperatures, and highly stressed hardware.

Responsibilities
  • Design and route complex fluid subsystems (pressurization, pneumatics, propellant utilization)
  • Apply strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Work with fluid components such as solenoid valves, pneumatic valves, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation
  • Author component specifications and manage suppliers through design, development, qualification, and delivery of flight hardware
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure systems integration and resolve issues with calculated risk
  • Lead and participate in component and system‑level testing and data analysis
  • Apply project‑management skills—including vendor management, scheduling, and budget tracking
  • Use REFPROP, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, or other fluid‑modeling software
  • Use 3D‑CAD programs (Creo preferred) and finite‑element‑analysis (ANSYS preferred)
  • Deliver completed designs using best drafting practices per ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards and provide clear, well‑documented analysis reports
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience with spacecraft or launch‑vehicle fluid‑system component design or test
  • Experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles in the detail design of aerospace or equivalent fluid systems and components
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements, and fittings
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control for tubes, piping, and machined components
  • Working knowledge of materials and treatments
  • Experience troubleshooting fluid hardware
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cryogenic helium, hydrogen, and oxygen systems
  • Knowledge of cryogenic material properties and testing
  • Experience with data‑acquisition systems
  • Experience with welding, machining, and non‑destructive testing or inspection
