Job summary

Opportunity Works Connecticut, Inc. is seeking a retail floral assistant to support staff and the individuals we serve in our Vernon, CT shop. You will help handling orders, processing flowers, and maintaining a neat, welcoming environment for customers.

This role requires flexibility, ability to lift up to 40 lbs, and comfort working in cold or hot conditions. Prior floral experience is preferred, and basic computer/POS skills are encouraged to learn and grow within our team.

Qualifications

• Floral design experience is preferred.
• Prior experience in the floral or garden center environment preferred.
• Strong skills in floral design, arrangement, and flower care.
• Willingness to learn how to use/work on a computer and its Point-of-Sale Software.
• Ability to work in a cold environment for long periods of time.
• Ability to work in hot environments for a long period of time.
• Potential to stand for long periods of time.
• Potential to kneel for an extended amount of time.
• Walk on uneven surfaces.
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to answer the phone and communicate with people effectively.
• Ability to write legibly with or without assistance.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs.
• Maintain good personal hygiene

Responsibilities

• Assist to maintain a clean, neat and organized shop.
• Assist with taking and logging orders
• Help with merchandise deliveries and transportation of the individuals
• Assist with the processing of flowers, plants and merchandise
• Assist with the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the facility
• Assist with overseeing inventory both live goods and hard goods
• Assist with ringing up customers
• Assist customers bringing their purchases to their vehicles
• Assist with daily paperwork for the individuals and follow delivery guidelines
• Assist with daily, weekly and monthly paperwork for the florist
• Assist with online floral sales sites
• Dress appropriately for the retail environment
• Assist with merchandising and creation of products for sale
• Assist with incoming deliveries and products
• Ensuring all safety procedures are followed
• Assist with prepping for and making the incoming orders
• Ensuring the business operates within the company’s mission statement
• Participation in OWC fundraisers
• Other duties as they arise
• Travel to other OWC locations for various tasks
