Mum's Floral & Home in the heart of our community is seeking a creative Floral Designer to join our fast-paced retail shop. This part-time position focuses on crafting fresh and dried arrangements, assisting customers, and helping with events and shop displays.

Responsibilities

• Floral Design: create fresh, dried, and wreath arrangements and plant displays.
• Fulfilling in-person or online orders with attention to detail.
• Assist customers on the sales floor and process orders on the computer/iPad.
• Keep wrap racks stocked and contribute to shop upkeep and displays.
• Support events, installations, and seasonal retail displays.

Job description

FLORAL DESIGNER

We are looking for a creative individual with either floral/design experience or an interest to learn, to join our growing team in our fast-paced retail store and floral shop. Our retail floral designers are expected to fulfill daily floral orders with an attention to detail and an eye for color and composition. In addition to daily design, other responsibilities include assisting customers alongside our sales associates, daily shop upkeep and participating in other projects such as small events, weddings, and retail displays. Overall, our designers are not only creative but they have a willingness to learn and grow while working as part of a team in a multi-faceted business.

• Part-time, year-round position

Essential Functions

• Floral Design (50-70%)
  • Accumulative design skills in a variety of styles- fresh arrangements/wraps, dried arrangements/wraps, plant gardens, and wreaths
  • Fulfilling in-person or online orders
  • Keeping the daily wrap rack stocked
  • Additional design tasks as needed such as special events, installations, window displays etc.
• Retail Customer Service & Sales (20%)
  • Take floral orders on the computer/iPad whether in-person or over the phone
  • Engage with customers as they walk through the door
  • Intermediate floral knowledge: to educate customers on types of flowers, varieties, longevity and maintenance
  • Intermediate plant knowledge: to educate customers on different types of plants and light requirements, hardiness
  • Basic merchandise knowledge: sell hard goods, candles, stationary, jewelry and clothing. Knowledgeable in vendors/artists in order to assist customers with questions.
• Local Deliveries (15%)
  • Routing deliveries
  • Calling recipients

  • Wrapping arrangements
  • Safely delivering items in a timely manner
• Shop Upkeep (10%)
  • Opening/closing duties
  • Display maintenance
  • Unpacking and processing new inventory as needed
  • Tending to plants
  • Bucket washing and other cleaning duties
  • Breaking down boxes/removing rubbish

Requirements

• Preferred floral and/or design experience or a desire to learn with a love of art/design
• Motivated, hard-working, positive attitude, and an ability to adapt to the Mum's aesthetic. Must be able to accept constructive criticism and have the desire to grow and learn in a creative environment.
• Retail customer service experience is highly desirable but not required
• Flexible schedule, must be able to work weekends
• Clean driving record
• Proficient with iPad and iMac
