Job summary

The Buckle, Inc. is hiring for Leader in Training and Floor Leader to help deliver an exceptional shopping experience.

You will work with the Store Manager and Leadership Team on sales, merchandising, and daily operations, including recruiting new teammates and leading by example on the sales floor. Pay ranges from $15.16 to $18 per hour, with base pay plus commissions for sales positions, and full-time teammates receive comprehensive benefits such as health coverage, 401(k) with company match,

Summary

The Leader in Training (LIT) and Floor Leader position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement: “To create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The LIT and Floor Leader performs a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates and provide leadership.

Compensation

Pay range: $15.16–$18/hr (base rate plus commission for sales positions). Final offers are based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job‑related factors.

Time Off
Vacation time is earned on a progressive schedule based on role and years of service, starting at 80 or 120 hours and prorated for the first partial year. Teammates earn 40 hours of sick time per year (prorated). Up to 80 hours of sick time may be carried over. Additional leave includes one floating holiday, up to three days of bereavement leave, and one paid volunteer day for salaried teammates.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service to each Guest.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs and desires.
  • Anticipate and fulfill Guest’s needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe‑ing experience.
  • Demonstrate product utilizing product knowledge and sales education, consistently sharing that knowledge and education with teammates.
  • Maintain and share knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
  • Remain consistent on personal sales, while looking for opportunities to impact teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG).
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management.
  • Provide legendary service throughout the store in these top four areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area.
  • Be knowledgeable of all exchange and return procedures for Guests and turn them into a show‑manship opportunity.
  • Fill out and effectively use the SPG daily to accomplish goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.
  • Investigate and navigate how to expand Guest selection through Inventory Manager, advanced product search, iPad apps, etc.
  • Maintain and build good Guest relationships to develop a client‑based business.
  • Lead by example with a high level of show‑manship, excellent customer service and attentiveness.
  • Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team.
  • Ask business‑driven and show‑manship questions to Managers, Team Leaders and teammates.
  • Be coachable; allow Managers to educate them in their sales presentation.
  • Consistently perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, whether or not the Manager is present.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Consistently recognize recruiting opportunities by utilizing Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals and Teammate Recommend.
  • Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating and educating new teammates to meet and achieve Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, Loss Prevention and sales presentation standards on a daily basis.
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times creating a positive floor culture.
  • Demonstrate personal dress code, encouraging and coaching teammates on the latest fashion.
  • Participate effectively in daily setup, training, impacting and reviewing while effectively utilizing the Performance Tracker.
  • Motivate teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks.
  • Show personal passion for demonstrating, coaching, and influencing results of denim show‑manship and denim fit cards through teammates and guests.
  • Create and develop results in your department and balance all DM actions within your segment while completing the mid‑week check‑in.

    • Demonstrate how to get the Guest involved with product.

Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product through zone ownership:
    • Product knowledge, placement, passion, preference.
    • Weekly Checklist.
    • Life cycle of product.
    • Track results.
  • Be able to recognize and assign zones and projects to teammates daily with a specific learning goal in mind.
  • Confirm teammates are following through with Visual Standards, Visual Library and Weekly Visual Checklist throughout their shift with a sense of urgency and accountability.
  • Execute and demonstrate all new tools and videos that apply to zone ownership and take initiative in knowing and executing zone ownership questions.
  • Show aptitude in recognizing merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and life cycle of product, communicating recommendations and solutions to the Store Manager.
  • Give informational and influential store tours.
  • Ensure the sales floor is consistently sized and new freight is appropriately displayed.
Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and potentially day of or day after Thanksgiving or Christmas.
  • Utilize the planner including completion of Opening and Closing Checklists.
  • Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts, and know how to prevent or handle these situations.
  • Follow all Loss Prevention guidelines, including daily bag and purse checks.
  • Execute and teach all Point of Sale procedures.
  • Appropriately handle calls from Corporate Office.
  • Know Buckle guidelines when handling returns and exchanges.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when dealing with challenging situations that involve guests or teammates.
  • Execute all policies regarding payments, exchanges and Loss Prevention practices.
  • Navigate and execute all tools on the home page.
  • Give guidance and feedback to all non‑sales positions.
  • Complete all scheduled shifts and cover shifts when needed.
  • Provide feedback to Store Manager and Leadership Team regarding merchandise handling concerns.
  • Communicate any policy violations and teammate or guest concerns to Store Manager, District Manager, and/or Human Resources in a timely, confidential manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store to fulfill Buckle’s mission statement.
  • Understand and apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and all Buckle policies, procedures, and handbooks.
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback from peers and management.

Education And/or Experience

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), or one to three months related retail experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

Regular requirements include standing, walking, using hands to manipulate items, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, or hearing. Occasionally required to sit. Lifting and maneuvering up to 50 lbs throughout the store and backroom is required. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Regularly works in a retail store setting. The noise level is usually moderate.
