Provide a service of installation, repair, and maintenance of all floor surfaces throughout the district facilities for the purpose of providing a safe environment for students, staff, and patrons of Spokane Public Schools. This may include some carpentry requirements as well.

SALARY: LEVEL 1 on the Unified Trades Salary Schedule. - Lay tile, linoleum, VCT, carpet, FRP and rubber cove base.
- Scrape, chip, and clean surfaces to prepare for installation of covering.
- Apply adhesives, pastes, and grouts.
- Remove, repair, and replace damaged, loose, or broken flooring – including asphalt, asbestos, vinyl, and rubber tile; repair and replace rubber cove base.
- May repair and replace ceramic counter tops, walls, and floors.
- Lay carpet; measure and cut padding and carpet to size, sew, trim, and properly secure in place.
- Observe safety rules and regulations.
- Perform related duties as requested by supervisor.
- Work with Journey level carpenters in the repair, maintenance, and/or alternation of buildings and other structures from plans, sketches, and/or instructions. This may include duties intended to repair, maintain, alter, or install partitions, floors, walls, ceiling tiles, doors, and stairs.
- Know the use of all related hazardous materials required to perform work.
- Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
- Journeyman having completed recognized apprenticeship in flooring installation and repair or equivalent. Including the installation of backer board, underlayment, concrete patch, and other substrate prep work associated with the removal and installation of all types of flooring and wall systems. Five years similar work experience preferred.
- Must be able to perform skilled installations, maintenance, and repair of all types of linoleum, carpets, tile, VCT, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to ready and perform from plans, sketches, and/or instructions.
- Demonstrated safety record.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate power equipment related to floor laying such as saws, sanders, and planners.
- Prefer asbestos worker's card or willing to obtain the card within six months.
- Demonstrated successful experience developing and maintaining positive, professional working relationships with diverse groups of co-workers, staff, community, and others.
- Ability to take and carry out directions with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Relates positive to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Must be able to follow directions, focus on objectives, foresee and develop solutions to work challenges, and pay close attention to detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, crawling, and other physical exertion; required to work on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs at various heights; may be requested to work off hours for emergencies; exposure to high noise levels from machines; may be exposed to potentially dangerous conditions; required to wear protective gear; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; required to lift and carry heavy supplies, materials and equipment up to 80 pounds; required to drive between sites.

- Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays – Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement Collective Bargaining Agreements as negotiated.
