Job summary

Modern Industries, Inc. is seeking a detailed-oriented Quality Inspector to verify in-process and finished parts meet customer requirements.

You will use micrometers, calipers and other gauges to inspect, document results in the ERP system, and identify nonconformities for disposition. The role requires reading drawings, adherence to Quality Systems, and the ability to perform under limited supervision in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Candidate should be able to read and interpret drawings.
• Familiarity with quality systems and inspection procedures.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings, control plans and work instructions to determine samples for inspection.
• Use micrometers, calipers, visual inspection and other gauges for planned inspections.
• Identify nonconformities, report them and approve parts for shipment or further processing.
• Log data into the ERP system for rejected parts and corrective actions.
• Verify corrective actions are implemented and effective.
• Maintain clean work areas and organize fixtures and inspection tools.
• Wear PPE and follow safety instructions; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly Non-Exempt (paid overtime)

GENERAL:

Responsible for inspecting in process and finished parts to insure that customer requirements are met.

Must have high school diploma or equivalent.Must be proficient in current computer software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Interpret drawings, control plans, process instructions and work instructions to determine sample quantities and features to be inspected for lots of parts with supervision.
• Use micrometers, calipers, visual inspection, and other gages as required to complete planned inspections with supervision.
• Identify and report conditions that do not meet requirements, and approve acceptable parts for shipment or further processing.
• Transfer rejected parts to staging area and log data into the ERP system.
• Verify implementation of appropriate correct action for quality issues.
• Use micrometers, calipers, and other gages as required.
• Maintain clean work areas and orderly storage of fixtures, gages and special inspection equipment.
• Wear personal protective equipment and follow safety instructions as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift parts and other items from floor to waist on a frequent basis, while protecting lifted items from damage. Parts weigh 50 lbs. on an occasional basis, 35 lbs. on a frequent basis.
• Must be able to stand for several consecutive hours without rest, with frequent bending and reaching.
• Must be able to tolerate a hot work environment seasonally, when summer outdoor temperatures combine with residual heat from machines.
• Must be able to walk within and between areas frequently and climb stairs occasionally.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
• Must be able to retain instructions sufficient to perform complex tasks successfully and with very minimal supervision.
• Must be able to read and understand drawings and precision measuring instruments.
• Must be able to comprehend and comply with requirements of the Quality Systems Manual as instructed.
