Job description

The APS Engineering Support Division (AES) provides reliable operations and technical support to the Advanced Photon Source user community. AES works to ensure that the Advanced Photon Source maintains its status as a preeminent scientific user facility.

Overview

Floor (Operations) Coordinators perform a wide range of tasks related to personnel safety, work planning and control, and operations on the experiment floor of the Advanced Photon Source.

Responsibilities
  • One on one work planning reviews with scientific staff prior to experiments
  • Liaison between disparate facility groups, such as maintenance staff, support staff, scientific staff, and management
  • Oversight and scheduling of maintenance, repairs, or construction
  • Collaboration with team members and other groups to achieve organizational goals
  • Problem identification and resolution
  • Review and development of safety related procedure and policy
  • Creation and maintenance of detailed operational event logs
  • Safety document creation
  • Database maintenance
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned

This salaried position requires flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend shifts, to meet project demands and organizational needs. It requires mostly on-site presence at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois with the ability to telecommute occasionally if needed.

This position requires a highly adaptable individual with a proven ability to communicate, the discipline to implement established procedures, troubleshooting and problem‑solving capability, a commitment to personnel safety, and a curious nature.

Position Requirements
  • Interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and ability to interact with people at all levels both within and outside the laboratory.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory construction practices is required.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
  • Strong documentation skills.

  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelors and 2+ years’ experience, or equivalent.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Experience in electrical work.
  • Knowledge of Argonne National Laboratory's safety procedures and requirements.
  • Experience at a user facility, with experience at a synchrotron most desirable.

Pay Range

The expected hiring range for this position is $69,750.00 - $108,810.00. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Additionally, comprehensive benefits are part of the total rewards package.
