As a Floodplain Engineer, you’ll be supporting our Nation’s efforts to reduce flood risk and protect communities nationwide. This is an excellent opportunity to receive real-world training in hydrology, hydraulics, GIS, and floodplain management, while helping shape the maps that inform disaster planning, insurance, and infrastructure decisions across the U.S.

As part of our MT-2 team, you’ll work on projects spanning coastlines, rivers, and floodplains in every corner of the United States. You’ll never be stuck doing the same thing—each case brings new challenges, new places, and new opportunities to grow your skills.

This is more than a job — it’s an opportunity to be mentored by top coastal and water resource professionals, contribute to high-impact national work, and build a meaningful, long-term career.

Due to federal contract requirements, only U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. Candidates on student and/or work visas or other authorizations (e.g., OPT, H1B, GreenCards/permanent residency) are not eligible.

As a member of our MT-2 team, you will:

  • Work with data and projects covering the full range of the United States – this is a nationwide program – every assignment brings a new landscape, ensuring variety and ongoing learning.
  • Review Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) requests to evaluate proposed changes to flood hazard data.
  • Analyze hydrologic, hydraulic, and/or coastal models for technical soundness.
  • Contribute to GIS mapping, data analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Support community resilience, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable infrastructure planning.
  • Communicate findings clearly with project stakeholders.
  • Learn industry-standard tools and contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven team.
  • Grow your career.

Requirements

A qualified candidate will possess the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science; Geography; Geomatics; Urban or Regional Planning; Civil, Coastal, or Environmental Engineering; or a related field.
