Job summary

Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago's North Center is seeking a full-time Floater Pre-school Teacher to join our team. You will plan and implement curriculum and support preschool readiness.

You will collaborate with Family Support Workers, Teachers, and supervisors, ensuring safe ratios and high-quality classroom activities. The role requires flexibility, teamwork, and commitment to community impact.

Qualifications

  • Associates or better in Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience with Head Start or early childhood programs preferred.
  • Ability to work with families and diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Support a team approach to planning and implementing program activities.
  • Collaborate with Family Support Workers, Teachers, Program Aide, site partners, and site supervisor.
  • Participate in ongoing CLASS implementation and monitoring.
  • Guide and facilitate activities of the children with proper ratios.
  • Attend mandated trainings and set professional development goals.

We are now hiring a full-time Floater Pre-school Teacher to join our team!

We currently offering $3,000 Sign-on Bonus for first-time employees with MFS! ($750 on the first paycheck and $1,250 after 6 months of employment and $1,000 after a year).

Individuals working at least 20.75 hours a week are benefit eligible on a prorated basis! In addition to continuous career development and support, other benefits offered include:

We are currently looking to fill a Floater Pre-school T eacher role at our North Center in Chicago.

SALARY:

  • The average starting salary for this position will fall in the range of $40,000 and $43,000 annually. Where candidates fall in this range will be based on skill, Credentials and experience level.
JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for planning and implementing individualized curriculum. Facilitates teaching methods and activities for children that appropriately address the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of the children. Ensures staff adherence to the Illinois State Board of Education and/or Head Start Standards. Works with diverse staff and service population. Under the general supervision of the Site Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for supporting a team approach to planning and implementing program activities.
  • Collaborates with Family Support Workers, Teacher’s, Program Aide, site partners, and site supervisor for the betterment of the classroom and families.
  • Participates in ongoing CLASS implementation and monitoring.
  • Guide and facilitate activities of the children and ensures appropriate child guidance and discipline and proper ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Attend all mandated trainings. Set and achieve professional development goals.
  • Share resources with other staff members as appropriate. All professional development to be tracked in Gateways.
  • Use Teaching Strategies Gold to maintain ongoing, high-quality documentation of school readiness skills. Maintain Interrater Reliability.
  • Use Teaching Strategies Gold to communication with families through monthly newsletters and family conference forms.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
  • Ability to plan and implement learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for preschool by developing their literacy awareness and their approaches to learning.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for infants and toddlers.
  • Support the social and emotional development of children.
  • Encourage the involvement of the families of the children in a Early Head Start program and supporting the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment.
  • Mobility for travel required.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Candidates must have regular access to reliable transportation or a reliable vehicle with insurance.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and/or weekends if needed.
  • Satisfactorily pass a health examination, fingerprint and criminal background check.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
