Job summary

Sandhills Medical in Sumter, SC is seeking a State Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy team. You will assist the pharmacist, prepare prescriptions, label medications, and help ensure safety protocols and patient privacy are followed.

Responsibilities include processing Rx orders, data entry into the EMR, stocking shelves, and assisting with patient counseling under supervision. Travel to other locations may be required as needed.

Pharmacy technicians carry a number of important responsibilities. On a typical day, pharmacy techs collaborate with pharmacists to ensure customers receive quality care and meet all health and safety standards and protocols. Specific job duties include sorting pills, creating labels, reviewing medication side effects, greeting customers, and ringing up purchases. Some Sandhills Medical locations also contain drive-thru windows, which pharmacy technicians often operate. Additional pharmacy tech job duties vary by location. In addition, the Pharmacy Technician is part of a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) team and is expected to be familiar with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the PCMH.Job Duties:Registered Pharmacy TechniciansAssist RPh in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy serviceAssist RPh in preparing RxHandling of legend drugs or devices, to include but not limited to, receiving shipments of pharmaceuticals & stocking the shelves & binsAccepting WRITTEN prescriptions onlyReceive verbal requests from patients for available refillsPerform initial interpretation of licensed practitioner ordersSelect from available stock legend drugs & devices for Rx preparationEnter Rx information into computer, including drug allergies.*ONLY A LICENSED RPH MAY OVERRIDE Drug Utilization Review and Drug Interaction Alerts.Place medications in a suitable containerAppropriately label Rx containerCheck for out of date drugsProcess medications returned for credit according to policies & proceduresDiscard expired returns according to policies & proceduresMay process new Rx medication sales must ensure patient speaks with RPh to receive counseling pertaining to new medicationsMix drugs in a dry form with water to make them an active liquid medicationMaintains confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPPA and SANDHILLS MEDICAL.Exhibit professional conduct at all times.State Certified Pharmacy TechniciansIn addition to all duties in performed by a registered pharmacy technician, state certified pharmacy technicians can:Receive & initiate verbal telephone ordersConduct prescription transfersTraining:The pharmacy technician will be responsible for attending all mandatory training including evidence-based approaches to self-management support, proactively addressing the needs of patients and families in this community, culturally competency, effective communication, care coordination, OSHA, HIPPA, and HER, etc.To maintain registration status, they must complete 10 hours of continuing education (CE) (4 live & 6 home) yearly before renewal registration.Additional Requirements:Must be willing to work with Sandhills Medical EMR system.Valid SC pharmacy technician licenseMust have a valid driver license.This position may require travel to other pharmacy locations as needed to provide staffing coverage and support operational needs. To maintain registration status, they must complete 10 hours of continuing education (CE) (4 live & 6 home) yearly before renewal registration.State Certified Pharmacy Technician: must: be a current registered pharmacy technician, provide a copy of their high school diploma or GED, complete a formal academic training program with specific requirements, receive a degree/diploma/certificate from a program accredited by American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), & complete 1,000 hours of practice experience under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
