Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the surgeon and scrub nurse in the operating room, ensuring sterile technique, proper equipment function, and patient safety throughout invasive procedures.

Requires a high school diploma, graduation from an accredited surgical technology program (or 68D equivalent), NBSTSA certification, and at least two years of experience. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or Military Training (68D) required; online program credits not accepted.
• Two years of Surgical Technologist experience required.
• Current NBSTSA Surgical Tech Certification required; new grads must obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Demonstrate strong customer service, verbal and nonverbal communication, interpersonal skills and time management.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon and scrub nurse in sterile field and instrument handling.
• Maintain sterile technique and operating room safety throughout procedures.
• Ensure equipment functions properly and is prepared for surgical cases.
• Support patient safety and efficient workflow during invasive procedures.

What We Offer

The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

What We're Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D – Operating Room Specialist). For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification please see additional skills required. Online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted.
• Experience: Two years of previous Surgical Technologist experience, required.
• Licensure/Certification: Current Surgical Tech Certification through NBSTSA, required.
• Additional Skills Required:
  • New graduates must obtain certification within 12months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing.
  • Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills.
