Job summary

San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital is seeking a Float Pool Registered Nurse for part-time night shift coverage from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM with flexible day scheduling. The role supports multiple inpatient and clinical areas as needed, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care across departments.

The position requires CA RN licensure, BSN/ADN or diploma, and ACLS, PALS, NIHSS certifications upon hire. Strong clinical judgment, communication, and adaptability are essential.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with diploma, associate degree, or BSN.
  • Current active license in the State of California.
  • Prefer 1-3 years’ experience in acute care; 5 years with specialty area.
  • NIHSS Stroke/Scale certifications required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care in assigned departments based on staffing needs and acuity.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and monitor changes in condition.
  • Develop, implement and update individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and blood products per orders.

FLOAT POOL PROGRAM -RN

Job Summary

The Float Pool Registered Nurse provides safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care across multiple inpatient and clinical areas based on organizational needs, patient census, acuity, and staffing requirements. The Float Pool RNdemonstratesflexibility, adaptability, and strong clinical judgment while functioning within their demonstrated competencies, experience, and assigned scope of practice. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized plans of care, administering medications and treatments, monitoring, and responding to changes in patient condition, coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team, providing patient and family education, andmaintainingaccurateandtimelydocumentation. The Float Pool RN is expected to quickly adapt to different patient populations, workflows, and unit environments whilemaintainingestablished standards of care,hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and patient safety practices. This position supports continuity of hospital operations by providing skilled nursing coverage where it is most needed andpromotesa professional, collaborative, and respectful environment across all assigned departments.

Key Responsibilities (not all inclusive)
  • Provides direct nursing care in assigned departments based on staffing needs, census, patient acuity, anddemonstratedclinical competency.
  • Performs comprehensive and ongoing patient assessments andidentifiesactual or potential changes in patient condition.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and updates individualized nursing plans of care.
  • Administers medications, blood products, treatments, and other therapeutic interventionsin accordance withprovider orders, hospital policy, and applicable standards of practice.
  • Recognizes changes or deterioration in patient condition and initiatesappropriate interventionsand escalation of care.
  • Communicates significant changes in patient status promptly to theappropriate providerand members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs nursing procedures andutilizesequipmentappropriate tothe assigned department and withindemonstratedcompetency.
  • Coordinates patient care with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, case management, ancillary departments, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Providesappropriate patientand family educationregardingdiagnoses, medications, treatments, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
  • Documentsassessments, interventions, patient responses, education, and other required information accurately andtimelyin the medical record.
  • Participates in bedside handoff and ensures effective communication during transitions of care.
  • Follows infection prevention, medication safety, fall prevention, patient identification, and other established patient safety practices.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations, rapid response events, and codes within the nurse's assigned role and competency.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentialityin accordance withHIPAA and hospital policy.
  • Advocates for patient rights, preferences, dignity, and culturallyappropriate care.
  • Demonstrates professional and respectful communication with patients, families, providers, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the RN scope of practice anddemonstratedcompetency as assigned.

The Float Pool RN is expected todemonstrateflexibility in assignments and may be assigned to different departments during a scheduled shift based on operational and patient care needs.

The Float Pool RNis responsible forcommunicating any concernsregardingan assignment, unfamiliar procedure, equipment, medication, or patient population to the Charge Nurse or House Supervisor before accepting responsibility for care that may exceeddemonstratedcompetency.

When assigned to an area outside the RN's established competency, the RN may be assignedappropriate supportivenursing functions within their demonstrated abilities rather than assuming responsibility for patients requiring specialized competencies.

Float Pool nurses are expected to follow the policies, procedures, workflows, and safety practices of the department to which they are assigned.

The Float Pool RN mustdemonstratecompetency in:

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with diploma, associate degree, or BSN.
  • Current active license in the State of California. Recent health care experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Prefer 1-3 years’ experience within acute care within the last 18 months. 5 years acute care experience with at least 3 years in a specialty area. Maintains BLS, ACLS,PALS & NIHSS Stroke/Scale Certifications required upon hire. The RN must possess ability of high degree of adaptability, flexibility, and customer service skills. Basic Computer Skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform essential duties and communicate patient safety concerns. Additional language skills are preferred.
