Job summary

Mercy STL Ballas Campus is seeking a Patient Care Associate to join the Float Pool. Under the direction of RNs or LPNs, you assist with individualized patient care, document vital signs, help with meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, and patient transport, and provide essential clerical support.

There is an accredited PCA Training Program with hands-on experience; growth to Patient Care Technician and beyond, including phlebotomy, wound care, IV care, and tracheostomy suctioning, all within a

Qualifications

• Obtains vital signs and documents in EMR.
• Assists with patient care needs including meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, mobility, and transport.
• Provides clerical support as needed.

Responsibilities

• PCA duties include the tasks listed above.
• PCT duties add phlebotomy, blood cultures, enteral feeding, wound care, IV/ Foley removal, and tracheostomy care.

Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

Position Details:

Patient Care Associate

Department: Float Pool - Mercy STL - Ballas Campus

Hours / Shift: Days (7 am -7pm) Nights (7pm-7am)

Full time : 3-12 hour shifts per week

Part time: 2-12 hour shifts per week

Job Duties

Responsibilities for Patient Care Associate (PCA):

• Obtain vital signs and document in the electronic medical record system
• Assist with patient care needs, including:
  • Meals
  • Bathing
  • Toileting
  • Ambulation
  • Mobility assistance
  • Patient transport
• Provide clerical support as needed

Responsibilities for Patient Care Technician (PCT):

• Perform all PCA job duties
• Phlebotomy / blood cultures
• Enteral feeding
• Wound care
• IV / Foley removal
• Tracheostomy care & suctioning

Training

• Our Patient Care Associate Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program
• Gain hands-on experience in a supportive healthcare environment

No Experience? No Problem!

• Mercy provides a required 175-hour training program that meets Department of Health and Senior Services requirements
• Training is completed during new hire orientation and must be finished within 90 days

Certifications Requirements:

• BLS required within 1 month of hire
• PCA competencies completed within 3 months of hire

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• CNA/CPTC or
• Currently enrolled in a healthcare program
• OR current Mercy co-worker

Experience:

• None required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly
• Prolonged standing and walking during shifts
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat
