Job Purpose

Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of the patient’s needs following physical or mental/behavioral independence and functional performance. The therapist evaluates patients, plans treatment programs, administers occupational therapy modalities and procedures under the prescription of the patient’s physician, documents treatment plans and results, and communicates this information to all parties involved; and performs related duties as required. Any position that has direct patient care is considered to be safety sensitive by Avem Health Partners’ standards.

Essential Functions
  • Administers a variety of patient care and special procedures utilizing unique skills/training to this department.
  • Interprets referrals; examines, evaluates, and develops and modifies occupational therapy plan of care including anticipated goals and expected outcomes for patients.
  • Performs a comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessment of assigned patients as evidenced by clinical documentation.
  • Performs initial assessment/plan of care for each patient upon receiving physicians order according to departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Administers appropriate modalities, exercise regimens, and/or treatment procedures according to departmental policies and procedures and standards of care.
  • Maintains progress notes and departmental records on each patient according to departmental policies regarding documentation and charges.
  • Participates in promoting education within the Occupational Therapy (Rehabilitation) Department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include adult and geriatric.
  • Directs rehabilitation technicians in assistance with patients, cleaning duties, or restorative program to allow improved and efficient performance of the Rehab Department.
  • Communicates with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Evaluates, and regularly re‑evaluates the needs of the client; initiates, develops, implements and makes necessary revisions of the client's plan of care.
  • Ensures all safety and infection control practices are followed.
  • Shows ability to think quickly and competently in stressful situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice.

Education / Certification / Licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current Oklahoma license of Occupational Therapy.
  • Current BLS (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
Experience
  • Five (5) years of full‑time physical therapy work.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily and can accommodate reasonable accommodation for disabilities.
  • Requires visual and auditory abilities to be intact for duties.
  • Must be able to lift patients to and from bed or other surface as needed.
  • Must be able to exert more than 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Must be able to exert more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move patients and/or objects.
  • Must have the physical strength and agility to position patients for a variety of examinations and procedures.
