Job summary

Family First Health in York County, PA, is seeking a Float Pool Medical Assistant for a full-time position (40 hours/week) based at our George Street Medical location. The role involves direct patient care in ambulatory settings and requires flexibility to travel to multiple FFH sites as needed.

Successful candidates will have completed a Medical Assistant program with at least one year of experience, CPR certification, and basic computer skills for EHR documentation.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program with at least one year of prior Medical Assistant experience
  • Current CPR certification
  • Narcan training required upon hire
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology
  • English proficiency required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Travels and reports to work at multiple locations based on scheduling needs
  • Accurately obtains and documents chief complaint for patient visit, vitals, allergies, etc.
  • Prepares exam room and patient for visits
  • Collects specimens and handles processing and transport to lab
  • Performs orders/instructions by provider/standing order
  • Documents all aspects of patient care in the EHR
  • Administers medications, injections, and immunizations as directed
  • Provides patient education and ensures understanding of illness/treatment
  • Completes pre-visit chart prep and participates in daily huddles
  • Manages daily patient flow and prioritizes tasks
  • Completes referrals, scheduling, and prior authorizations
  • Reviews labs/x-rays and follows up on urgent results
  • Maintains medical supply inventory and stocking
  • Handles instruments and maintains equipment per guidelines
  • Performs opening/closing procedures and cash handling
  • Maintains clinical competencies and licensure
  • Greet and register patients; collect demographic/insurance data
  • Assists patients with reduced fee program applications
  • Answers calls and processes messages
  • Processes and resolves billing/insurance questions
  • Schedules appointments in the EHR
  • Maintains knowledge of health insurances and payer types

Float Pool Medical Assistant Job Summary

The Medical Assistant will act under the supervision of a physician, registered nurse practitioner, and/or physician-assistant to provide direct patient care in an ambulatory care setting. Required to provide direct patient care that may include medical procedures, medication administration, and medical treatments. Job functions also include proper documentation into the Electronic Health Record, administrative support, and patient/family instruction as directed by the medical provider. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in the patient-centered medical home model of care and actively participates in learning and growing in the medical team to offer trustworthy medical services with exceptional clinical quality outcomes. Provides safe and efficient care and services to patients, following Family First Health policies, procedures, and protocols.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Travels and reports to work at multiple locations based on scheduling needs
  • Accurately obtains and documents chief complaint for patient visit, all vital signs, medication requests, allergies, etc.
  • Prepares exam room and patient for specific type of visit
  • Collects specimens and uses appropriate equipment and protocols for specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage. Ensures all specimens are tracked/logged prior to transportation to lab.
  • Performs all orders/instructions as recorded and instructed by the provider/standing order
  • Clearly and accurately documents all aspects of patient care in the electronic health record
  • Accurately prepares and administers medications, injections, and immunizations as per standing order and/or provider order. Demonstrates proper handling, storage, and record-keeping of vaccines.
  • Provides patient educational materials and ensures patient understanding of illness and/or treatment plan as directed by the provider.
  • Completes pre-visit chart prep for each patient daily as according to established guidelines. Participates in daily huddles with the provider and multidisciplinary care team.
  • Efficiently manages daily patient flow to handle fluctuating patient volumes, demands, and delays.
  • Prioritizes tasks and activities that are delegated by the provider and care team, including, but not limited to, inbox management in the electronic health record
  • Completes referral needs for patients, including scheduling and arranging appointments and prior authorization
  • Reviews labs, x-rays, test results, and clinical documents and follows up with provider on urgent results
  • Effectively presents clinical information to the care team
  • Maintains proper medical supply inventory in all patient care areas. Ensures exam rooms are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and have equipment in proper working condition
  • Properly handles, stores, and cleans instruments, equipment, and supplies per manufacturer guidelines
  • Performs all lab and office opening/closing procedures, including end-of-day cash drawer reconciliation
  • Maintains required clinical competencies, clearances, and licensure
  • Greets and registers patients collecting accurate demographic and insurance information and documenting accurately in the electronic health record
  • Assists patients with applying for the reduced fee program in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages, and provides information to callers
  • Collects patient payments at time of service and accurately processes payments. Researches and resolves billing and insurance-related questions for patients
  • Schedules appointments for patients in the electronic health record
  • Maintains a working knowledge of health insurances and payer types
  • Accurately processes and classifies documents in the electronic health record
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Position Requirements
