Job summary

St Joseph Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) to support nurses in delivering compassionate patient care. The role involves basic care, patient transport, and contributing to the patient’s plan of care under RN direction.

Ideal candidates will have completed an accredited CNA program and CPR/BLS certification, with a focus on patient dignity and safety and a willingness to engage with an interprofessional team to improve care quality.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant program, upon hire.
  • Military medical specialty training, upon hire.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: WA, upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire.
  • Six months related work experience preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient personal care/hygiene and physical comfort (feeding, bathing, grooming, bed care, ambulation).
  • Transports patients and prepares equipment for procedures/examinations.
  • Assists with admission, discharge and transfer and orients patient/family.
  • Maintains organized work environment; stocks supplies and reports equipment issues.
  • Keeps patient areas safe and adheres to infection prevention standards.
  • Participates in quality assurance and department growth opportunities.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), you will be a cornerstone of patient care, directly contributing to comfort, safety, and recovery by providing essential support under RN direction. Every day, you will deliver compassionate basic care, assist with patient transport, and actively contribute to the patient's plan of care as a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, upholding the highest standards of conduct and patient well-being. To be successful in this role, you will possess a dedicated spirit of service, strong communication skills, a meticulous approach to patient support, and an unwavering commitment to our mission of dignified, high-quality healthcare.

  • Provides patient personal care/hygiene and physical comfort, including feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothes, bed making, ambulation, lifting, turning, moving, transferring, skin care and bowel/bladder elimination. Provides such additional care as required to meet the personal primary needs and comfort of assigned patient based on skill, ability, limitations of scope of practice and patient acuity. Prepares patient, equipment and supplies for specific procedures/examinations.
  • Performs, monitors, reports and documents all clinical activities within scope of practice. Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the RN. Obtains labels and transports a variety of samples (e.g. urine, stool, sputum specimens and blood products). Provides patient information to nursing staff for inclusion in the interdisciplinary plan of care; documents relevant patient data in accordance with work unit standards.
  • Assists nursing staff in the admission, discharge and transfer of patient by performing activities such as inventory/storing patient belongings, providing patient with relevant personal care/comfort items, orienting patient/family and transporting patient to room or other location using wheelchairs, stretchers or patient bed.
  • Maintains a neat and organized work environment. Orders, stocks and replenishes supplies and equipment as necessary, identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters equipment repair request in system, tags equipment and removes from service.
  • Maintains a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital’s Safety, Risk Management, Regulatory Standards and infection prevention.
  • Participates in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and activities as requested. Participates in growth opportunities.
