Job Overview
The Go Team PA/NP is prepared to deliver primary health care, including but not limited to: recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries in the Emergency Department and inpatient setting HM, ICU, some of which may be determined by protocol; provision of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on the early detection and treatment of disease, as well as prevention
Essential Non-Clinical Functions
- APP must be flexible and have the ability to travel to various RWJBarnabas locations on a regular basis based on staffing needs
- APP must be able to work proficiently in HM, EM, and ICU
Essential Clinical Functions
- Work clinical shifts
- Membership to the medical staff and/or allied health staff
- Maintain appropriate certifications, licenses, and hospital privileges
- Obtain and record patient history and perform physical examinations
- Responsible for completing a medical screening exam
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic studies
- Order diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate
- Establish diagnostic decision-making and initiate a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc.
- Coordinate patient care with other members of the health care team
- Initiate consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management
- Instruct and counsel patients regarding mental and physical health; refer patients to appropriate specialists/resources
- Adequately manage patient flow in the ED/HM/ICU
- Perform other procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of your supervising or collaborating physician
- Actively participate in department staff meetings and risk management education
- Complete thorough and timely chart completion
- Complete required courses, e.g., HIPAA, EMTALA, and other CME CEU requirements
- Be able to work extended hours including weekdays, overnights, weekends, and holidays
Knowledge and Skills
- Medical knowledge, broad based understanding of clinical emergency and hospital medicine
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Maintain good working relationships with ED/HM/ICU team and hospital medical staff
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Works within legal, regulatory and ethical practice standards
- Flexibility with scheduling and willingness to help out with urgent scheduling needs
Education and Work Experience
- Must have a minimum of 5 years relevant EM, HM, and/or ICU experience; ideally candidate will be proficient in all
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- Physician Assistant Certification
- Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant Advisory required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) Certifications
- New Jersey CDS and DEA Licensure
- Active membership in a professional organization preferred
- Ability and willingness to accommodate scheduling needs including working extended hours, weekdays, overnights, weekends, and holidays
