Job summary

Actalent in Ossining, NY is seeking a Float Phlebotomist to provide blood draws and specimen preparation across multiple sites. This contract-to-hire role requires a patient-friendly approach and accurate labeling.

The position involves state travel, a Monday–Friday schedule, and onsite work with a pay range of $20.00-$25.00 per hour. Benefits eligibility may follow conversion.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomist with blood draw expertise.
• Experience with straight and butterfly needle techniques.
• Experience with infant blood draws and pediatric specimen processing.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of blood-draw experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontamination.
• Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate straight and/or butterfly needle techniques.
• Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
• Ensure proper labeling and follow procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Wear appropriate attire and attend annual department trainings.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high-quality care for our patients and those of our partners.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontamination.
• Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.

• Demonstrate techniques using straight and/or butterfly needles.

Work Environment

The position involves state travel and a changing work environment, providing variety for those who enjoy a change of scenery. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm, as needed, and every other Saturday or Sunday between 9 am to 5 pm, as needed. The role requires covering territories including Beacon, Newburgh, Ossining, Poughkeepsie, Peekskill, and Middletown.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
