Job summary

Bronson Healthcare seeks a Float Medical Assistant to cover Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek locations. The role supports providers with vital signs, history, charting, and patient education while traveling across sites.

Responsibilities include assisting in procedures, managing EMR documentation, and coordinating tests and referrals. Must have MA training and BLS; travel and flexible workflow are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Complete accredited medical assistant program or CMA/CCMA/RMA certification, or eligible to take CMA/RMA within 6 months of hire.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire; in good standing in Michigan.
• Knowledge of clinical skills required for Medical Assistant Certification/Registration.
• Strong problem-solving and prioritization skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and confidential information processing skills.
• Clear and effective communication with patients, doctors, and staff; maintain patient confidentiality.
• Independent work capability and ability to function as a team member.
• Computer skills with EMR experience desirable.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills and positive customer service orientation.
• Strong working relationships with physicians, office staff, and employees.

Responsibilities

• Obtain concise patient history and document clinical information in patient charts.
• Educate patients and families about medications, treatments, and care plans.
• Post and process information to patients’ charts.
• Assist physicians with procedures such as laceration repair, pap/pelvic exams, ultrasound guided injections, casting, and other practice‑specific procedures.
• Administer treatments as requested by physicians, obtain specimens, perform laboratory tests, and document results.
• Schedule outside tests or procedures (x‑ray, MRI, etc.) and provide appropriate instructions to patients.
• Coordinate admissions, referrals, and call in prescriptions.
• Maintain supplies in exam rooms, conduct inventory, and report needed items.
• Assist in scheduling appointments within the EMR system.
• Screen calls, determine urgency, and assess need for appointments or phone advice.
• Assist in completion of miscellaneous patient forms (Worker Compensation, Disability, etc.).
• Attend staff, educational, or other meetings as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by nurses, practice manager, or physician.

Overview

Join Team Bronson to provide general nursing functions under provider’s direction, including vital signs, immunizations, patient assessment, charting, education, and support to providers. The role requires travel across multiple locations and adaptability to different workflow preferences.
