The Test and Evaluation team ensures products meet performance and reliability standards. This role is for a highly motivated flight test engineer focusing on software/hardware capability development and evaluation for the Altius UAS platform, an ISR-capable Group 2/3 autonomous vehicle. The engineer will evaluate software and hardware capabilities for operational suitability and integration with the Anduril system suite.
What you’ll do
- As a flight test engineer, work under minimal supervision with responsibilities for test planning, execution, reporting, and evaluating the system under test (software and/or hardware).
- Support and plan test events at test sites as required by the test plan.
- Manage test assets configuration, including hardware components, payloads, software/firmware configurations, and fleet management for current and future testing needs.
- Generate evaluation test plans and reports focusing on system functionality and software/hardware integration; include safety planning (risks, hazards, mitigations) and logistics (hardware availability, airspace, personnel, timelines).
- Generate and execute test cards, conduct pre/post flight briefings, and manage test events with pilots, engineering SMEs, and operations; operate Altius during system evaluation testing.
- Collaborate with SMEs and cross-functional teams during development and production testing; report findings and status, adjudicate testing tasks, and characterize issues and results.
- Interface daily with hardware and software engineering teams.
- Collect metrics for flight test events, including sortie information and delays.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
- Ability to understand new concepts quickly, apply them accurately, organize and coordinate work, and develop solutions to complex problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; actively contribute to effective team and cross-team communication.
- Methodical, thorough, and detail oriented. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in engineering tasks.
- Willingness to learn new skills and concepts.
- Current or ability to obtain FAA Part 107 UAS certification.
- Current or ability to obtain FAA Part 61 certifications (pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor; ground test complete is the only requirement).
- Working knowledge of National Airspace and UAS operating guidelines and regulations.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong software and documentation experience; familiarity with Linux, networking, SSH, and command line.
- 3+ years of flight test engineering or system-level testing experience.
- Knowledge and experience with Group 2/3 fixed-wing systems.
- Experience working on DoD programs.
Salary and Benefits
US Salary Range: $98,000 — $120,000 USD. The salary range is an estimate based on compensation factors and may vary by experience and qualifications. Equity grants are included with many full-time offers as part of total compensation.
