Job summary

Blue Origin in the United States seeks an experienced Flight Safety Analyst to lead regulatory efforts for the New Glenn program. You will conduct trajectory analyses, debris risk assessments, and probabilistic modeling to meet safety criteria and obtain approvals from FAA and USSF/NASA partners.

The role requires a solid engineering background, 5+ years in flight safety, and hands-on use of AVRA tools, MATLAB, and Python.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent technical field.
• 5+ years of experience with flight safety analysis processes and tools.
• Strong fundamentals in flight mechanics, dynamics, and aerospace vehicle simulation.
• Experience with trajectory analysis tools and probabilistic analysis methods.
• Exposure to regulatory requirements such as Part 450.

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a small, passionate team, you will work on launch vehicles, space vehicles, and launch facility systems for New Glenn. This critical role supports regulatory compliance efforts on the NG program focused on flight safety with the Federal Aviation Administration Office of Commercial Space Transportation and flight safety approvals with the USSF Range Safety organization. You will provide leadership in achieving the required regulatory approvals for the New Glenn launch vehicle program.

To be successful in this role, you will develop and maintain positive relationships across the New Glenn program and our US government partners at the US Space Force and NASA. You must be proactive in planning sophisticated products for flight safety in support of government certification requests. You will be in charge of conducting flight safety analysis studies including trajectory analysis, debris risk assessment, probability of failure modeling, and DFO/population risk evaluations-and generate clear, well-documented technical reports summarizing analysis results. Lastly, you must have the resourcefulness and flexibility to perform at a high-level in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be an incredible team member!

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent technical field
• 5+ years of experience with flight safety analysis process, including best practices and state-of-the-industry tools
• Strong fundamentals in flight mechanics/dynamics and simulation of aerospace vehicles
• Strong fundamentals in statistical/probabilistic analysis
• Experience using trajectory analysis tools such as AVRA-T, AVRA-DR, BlastDFO, RRAT, TTK, MATLAB, Python
• Must have exposure to technical subjects such as LOX/LNG explosive yield, distant-focusing overpressure, probability of failure, debris risk analysis, population modeling, etc.
• Must understand the complex trade space between mission design and optimization parameters within allowable safety criteria
• Experience with key regulatory requirements such as Part 450

Preferred Qualifications :

• Experience in quantitative risk assessment including debris risk modelling
• Familiarity with launch licensing processes and regulations (e.g. FAA Part 450, SSCMAN 91-710)
• Experience in explosive modeling and estimation

Base Pay Range for:

CA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20

CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85

WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
