Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Base Medical Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages in the pre-hospital setting and during inter-facility transports.

Responsibilities

• Perform specialized functions and complex assessments, diagnoses, therapies and emergency treatment of patients transported by rotor-wing and/or fixed-wing and/or ground.
• Document/Chart appropriate and accurate information for assessment and treatment during stabilization and transport.
• Document/Chart accurate and complete billing information of patient transports.
• Maintain and facilitate effective and timely communication between management, internal and external customers.
• Participate in activities to support public relations and marketing efforts.
• Maintain knowledge base for flight nursing role.
• Attend mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to the care and transport of critically ill and/or injured patients.
• Complete all annual recurrent competency requirements.
• Function clinically under the direction of the program’s Medical Director through medical protocols and procedures and online medical guidance.
• Report directly to the program’s Manager of Clinical Services and indirectly to the National Director of Clinical Standards for clinical matters.
• Perform within the regulations and scope of practice of the local Department of Health Services.
• Preceptor as Base Educator, CQI Representative, Government Relations Representative, Membership Representative, Social Media Representative, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Active Paramedic Certification in the relevant state(s).
• Minimum of three years (five years preferred) current field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP and PHTLS/ITLS; NRP preferred.
• Instructor certifications preferred.
• Maintain all certifications required by policy, including FP-C within twenty-four months of hire.
• Flight or transport experience preferred.
• Successfully complete the PHI Health Group education/orientation program.
• Effective human relations skills required for interfacing with all levels of personnel and external customers.
• Meet and maintain clinical personnel weight restriction limit for flight per policy.
• Basic computer skills for e‑mail and electronic charting.
• Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field preferred.
• Ability to communicate verbally, effectively and clearly in person, by radio and by phone.
• Maintain a body weight below 215 pounds and pass pre-placement physical exam including functional capacity exam (strength and flexibility assessment, lift up to 100 pounds) and drug screening.
• Candidate lives within a one-hour drive or sixty (60) miles from the base if possible.
