The System Modeling, Evaluation, and Planning Group within the Force Projection Sector of the John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Flight Navigation Systems Engineer to help define the future Trident II Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile and establish a digital engineering framework to enable collaborative accuracy assessments across the Trident weapon system community.

As a Systems Engineer for Accuracy You Will...
  • Work with a talented team developing accuracy requirements, determining verification procedures, and executing architectural trades for next-generation weapon systems
  • Define and build a digital engineering framework for accuracy evaluation inside a MBSE environment
  • Provide thought leadership for current and future strategic weapon system digital engineering efforts
  • Support system-level evaluation of existing strategic systems by leveraging statistical and mathematical expertise
  • Interact with sponsors and representatives of other organizations
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a B.S. in physics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Have relevant experience in systems engineering for complex systems
  • Have experience in early concept development, system requirements, functional analysis and allocation, trade studies in support of the design, development, and evaluation of complex systems
  • Have experience in system modeling using UML/SysML and associated modeling software such as Cameo
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong critical thinking skills
  • Have strong initiative, interest in skill development, and the flexibility to accept assignments of varied scope and skill
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in physics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related technical discipline and 5+ years of experience in systems engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the strategic deterrence domain area
  • Experience in requirement development and verification for strategic systems
  • Strong object-oriented programming background and proficiency with C++, MATLAB, or Python
  • Experience with custom scripts and/or plug-ins for MagicDraw modeling software (including its Cameo variance) and/or DOORS requirements software
  • Experience with ontology development and scientific data modeling
  • Experience with maximum likelihood estimation or statistical modeling

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign‑on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. Pay

Minimum Rate: $100,000 Annually

Maximum Rate: $245,000 Annually
