Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Flight Dynamics Engineer - Trajectory Design & Astrodynamics (Level 3/4) to join our Western Region Software Engineering Directorate in Redondo Beach, CA. This onsite role focuses on developing tools for constellation deployment, mission planning, and orbit-raising for space missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience or Master’s with 3+ years, or Ph.D. with 1+ year.
• Active U.S. Government Secret clearance required at time of application.
• Experience with astrodynamics and orbital mechanics.
• Experience programming in Python and/or MATLAB.
• Experience designing and optimizing satellite trajectories and maneuvers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key interface with external stakeholders in meetings with customers and partners.
• Develop and maintain software tools to support constellation deployment and mission planning.
• Perform low-thrust maneuver planning using nonlinear optimization to meet objectives.
• Plan and analyze optical crosslinks and automate large satellite constellations.
• Generate and deliver trajectory and mission design solutions for small-sat and new space missions.
• Present technical work and designs at major program reviews with government customers.
• Prepare charts, present data, and provide clear recommendations to internal and external teams.
• Mentor team members and manage tasks across multiple program schedules.
