Job summary

Graphic Packaging International is seeking a skilled Flexo Press Operator to lead safety, quality, and productivity on a wide-web 8-color flexographic press. You will set up, run, and maintain equipment to print on paperboard substrates, and manage ink, color, and print quality to meet customer specs.

The role requires strong mechanical troubleshooting, math and color differentiation, plus hands-on press experience in manufacturing.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Flexo Press Operator Job Description

As a Flexographic Press Operator, you will lead your team in safety, quality, and productivity during the production of paperboard packaging. We are looking for a Flexo press operator to set up, run, and maintain a wide-web, 8-color and coating flexographic printing machine to print on various types of substrate paperboard. Key duties include in-process adjustments to press controls, managing ink, and checking print quality.

Work Environment

All work is performed in an indoor, climate and temperature controlled, packaging facility with proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery.

Full-Time

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday with overtime

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for 8-to-12 hours and lift up to 50 lbs.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Continued

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Arrive at work on time and during scheduled hours, working additional overtime as needed.


• Be an example to others by modeling and reinforcing safe-work practices and policies.


• Follow all written procedures. Report discrepancies in procedures to the production supervisor.


• Wear personal protective equipment as required; refer to job-specific work instructions.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.


• Listen to, follow, and relay written and verbal instructions.


• Operate assigned equipment to best of ability, ensuring safety, quality of goods and productivity for yourself and any assigned Assistant Operators.


• Re-position printing plates, adjust anilox rolls, or otherwise adjust machine to improve print quality.


• Sets and adjusts speed, ink flow, and positions and pressure tolerances of equipment.


• Examine job orders to determine details such as quantities to be printed, production times, stock specifications, colors, color sequences, and anilox BCM


• Ability to rebuild, remove and install UV lamps, as needed


• Monitor in-line BST system to ensure registration, print, and defects are within acceptable limits


• Capable of assembling a make ready


• Able to operate crane, sleeve, and parts washer


• Performs PMs on all make ready equipment and components


• Recognizes and prevents common setup problems


• Actively contributes to continuous improvement projects


• Capable of setting up press from shut down and shutting down equipment


• Able to manage all personnel and tasks during a make ready


• Recognizes how each press component affects critical quality elements


• Demonstrates a knowledge of the “how” and “why” of all components of the press


• Displays knowledge of physics behind ink and color characteristics


• Use quality instruments to measure quality with industry-specific equipment


• Read tape measure in metric and standard measurement systems


• Continuously perform visual inspections to ensure product meets or exceeds customer specifications.


• Perform minor maintenance


• Attend required training and/or meetings: safety, quality and productivity


• Train assistant operators and others to achieve company objectives


• Actively participate in continuous improvement projects


• Communicate with other plant personnel to solve production problems


• Operate powered industrial equipment and manual industrial equipment


• Record safety, quality, production, and maintenance data on various paperwork and computers as required


• Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the press room


• Works closely with press tech in problem solving and continuous improvement activities


• Perform other duties, as assigned.
