Thayer Academy is seeking a reliable substitute teacher to cover for absent instructors for classes from 5th through 12th grade. The role follows daily lesson plans and maintains a safe, engaging classroom environment.

The ideal candidate has substitute teaching experience, strong classroom management, and a commitment to inclusivity. Responsibilities include collaboration with staff and timely updates to the absent teacher.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience teaching middle school and/or high school is preferred.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive community.
• Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in classroom climate and curriculum.
• Comfort using a student information system and Google Suites.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and families.
• Flexible schedule with high levels of availability.
• Confidence and proficiency in giving instruction.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain maximum availability to accept assignments.
• Execute lesson plans consistent with teacher guidelines and school curriculum.
• Create a lesson plan if none is available.
• Establish a safe and welcoming classroom environment.
• Adhere to school policies and procedures.
• Record attendance according to school procedure.
• Assign homework as per lesson plan.
• Collaborate with colleagues as needed.
• Provide written updates to the absent teacher.
