Job summary

Kroger in Blacksburg, VA is hiring a Cashier/Checker to greet customers, process transactions, and maintain a safe, clean store environment. You will operate the POS, handle cash, checks, cards, and loyalty offers, adhere to loss prevention policies, and follow food safety rules to ensure a welcoming shopping experience.

The role requires basic math skills, prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk is preferred, and you will be part of a team that values respect, integrity and service.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)

Responsibilities

• Greet, engage and assist customers in-store.
• Process customer transactions quickly, accurately and efficiently at the check lane.
• Understand POS system and handle cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, WIC and coupons according to policy.
• Adhere to company limits on cash shortages/overages and prevent loss.
• Follow guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs).
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator and follow policies for stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
• Stay current with ads and promotions; adhere to food safety regulations and safety procedures.
• Identify unsafe conditions and notify management; supervise equipment maintenance as needed.
