Job summary

Alta Planning + Design is seeking an Engineering Designer II for our Atlanta office. This production‑level role designs sustainable transportation projects and supports multimodal initiatives across Georgia.

You will work on bikeway, streetscape, and civil design tasks and help communities become more connected and equitable. The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of civil engineering experience, a Bachelor’s in Civil or Transportation Engineering, and proficiency with MicroStation Connect and

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience as a Civil Engineer in a consulting environment or at government entity
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or a related field of study
• Proficient in MicroStation Connect and OpenRoads Designer
• Experience in active transportation and street design
• Experience preparing exhibits, concept drawings, and Plans, Specifications and Estimates packages for transportation projects
• Ability to collaborate with staff across the company and manage internal team expectations
• Interest in developing multimodal transportation skills, design proficiency, problem solving, and civil transportation proficiency
• Ability to manage competing priorities on multiple projects within budget and schedule constraints
• Excellent professional ethics, leadership, accountability, and communication skills
• Proficient in Excel, Word, or similar software

Responsibilities

• Multidisciplinary Project Delivery: collaborate with planners, landscape architects, and engineers to deliver multimodal projects including bikeway designs and complete streets
• Design & Technical Responsibilities: manage geometric layout, grading, drainage, green infrastructure, signing and striping, and traffic control plans
• Site visits & construction oversight to monitor progress and ensure designs meet specifications
• Project coordination & client interaction; lead meetings and prepare bid-ready PS&E packages
• Proposal & planning support including scopes of work, fee estimates, and grant applications
