Position Summary

The Warehouse Associate/Flex Driver supports the daily operations of the Lowcountry Food Bank's warehouse, shipping, receiving, and transportation functions. This position processes agency orders, works alongside volunteer groups, assists with receiving and shipping activities, and operates a box truck to support transportation needs.

This position is based at a regional facility but requires regular travel to and from the Lowcountry Food Bank's Charleston location. The successful candidate must have experience operating a box truck and be comfortable regularly driving a box truck between the regional facility and Charleston based on operational needs.

This position must also be comfortable traveling regularly between the regional facility and our Charleston location based on operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Shipping and Warehouse Operations

• Pull, palletize, shrink-wrap, and accurately label orders for truck shipment or agency pickup.
• Assist with loading delivery trucks and agency vehicles.
• Enter agency orders and accurately process invoices in Ceres.
• Work alongside volunteer groups to complete orders and other warehouse projects.
• Maintain the cleanliness and general organization of the shipping and receiving areas.
• Properly dispose of trash and other materials throughout the shift.
• Inspect warehouse equipment and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns to the Regional Food Center Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Receiving and Inventory Support

• Unload retail route and transport trucks safely and efficiently.
• Assist with the safe and orderly storage of products throughout the warehouse.
• Inspect incoming products for damage, discrepancies, and food-safety concerns.
• Rotate stock when receiving new inventory.
• Assist with the processing and flow of products through the Reclamation Room.
• Support accurate product placement and inventory management.

Transportation

• Pick up and deliver products to partner agencies, retail donors, schools, regional food centers, and other designated locations as needed.
• Serve as a flex driver to support transportation coverage and changing operational needs.
• Travel regularly between the assigned regional facility and the Lowcountry Food Bank's Charleston location.
• Communicate regularly with the Director of Transportation regarding scheduling, delivery needs, and fleet maintenance concerns.
• Conduct required vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Follow all safety requirements associated with operating Lowcountry Food Bank vehicles.
• Represent the Lowcountry Food Bank professionally when interacting with donors, partner agencies, volunteers, and community members.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow all Lowcountry Food Bank food-safety standards and procedures.
• Follow established warehouse safety protocols and safe material‑handling practices.
• Properly operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
• Follow all safety requirements related to Lowcountry Food Bank vehicles and transportation operations.
• Participate in required safety training and immediately report accidents, injuries, damaged products, and unsafe conditions.

Required Education, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Four years of experience in warehouse operations, transportation, customer service, or a related field.
• Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between Lowcountry Food Bank locations, including the Charleston facility.
• Resourceful approach to problem‑solving and troubleshooting.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, respond to interruptions, and remain focused on producing accurate, quality work.
• Strong commitment to internal and external customer service.
• Ability to apply basic math concepts.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to learn and adapt to Ceres and other software systems.
• Ability to successfully complete pallet jack and forklift certification.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Willingness and ability to complete required drug screenings and DOT physical examinations.

Schedule and Physical Requirements

• Ability to work a flexible schedule Monday through Saturday.
• Ability to travel between Lowcountry Food Bank facilities and other assigned locations.
• Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to move heavy objects weighing up to 3,000 pounds using appropriate material‑handling equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
• Ability to work in warehouse environments with varying temperatures and noise levels.
