Job summary

Homemakers in Tiffin, Iowa is seeking a hands-on Fleet Technician to maintain and repair trucks, vans, forklifts, and warehouse equipment. You’ll help keep our fleet road-ready, ensuring safety and reliability across our operations in a fast-paced environment.

We provide tools and uniforms, and occasional travel may be required to support other Homemakers locations. The role is full-time with a Monday–Friday schedule, and a competitive hourly wage.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or fleet technician
• Experience with diesel trucks, vans, forklifts and warehouse equipment is preferred
• Valid driver's license required

Responsibilities

• Keep fleet road-ready with routine maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks, filters, DEF)
• Inspect brakes, tires, steering, suspension, batteries, lighting
• Complete lift gate maintenance and minor hydraulic/electrical repairs
• Maintain truck boxes, seals and doors; inventory of parts
• Perform minor welding/cable replacements and adjustments
• Track service schedules with Samsara and keep records up to date
• Support warehouse equipment maintenance (forklifts, pallet jacks)
• Coordinate repairs with outside service providers as needed
• Communicate downtime and priorities with managers and team members

What You'll Do

Keep Our Fleet Road-Ready

• Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and DEF refills
• Inspect and service brakes, tires, steering, suspension, batteries, and lighting systems
• Complete lift gate maintenance, safety checks, and minor hydraulic or electrical repairs
• Maintain truck boxes, seals, roll-up doors, swing doors, and related components
• Perform minor welding, cable replacements, and roller adjustments as needed
• Track service schedules and maintenance records through Samsara fleet management software
• Maintain inventory of commonly used truck parts

Support Warehouse Equipment

• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment
• Inspect hydraulic systems, batteries, chargers, forks, mast components, and safety systems
• Coordinate repairs with outside service providers when needed
• Help ensure warehouse equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready for daily use

Help Keep Operations Running Smoothly

• Shuttle trucks and vans to repair vendors for major service work
• Maintain accurate maintenance records for compliance and scheduling
• Communicate equipment downtime and repair priorities with managers and team members
• Support fleet and equipment needs across departments

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, automotive technician, fleet technician, or similar role preferred
• Strong understanding of preventive maintenance for trucks, vans, forklifts, and warehouse equipment
• Experience working with lift gates, truck boxes, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and forklifts is a plus
• Ability to diagnose issues and complete minor to moderate repairs independently
• Basic computer skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Valid driver's license required

Bonus Opportunity

Occasional travel to our Tiffin or Urbandale locations may be needed to support other technicians or provide coverage when necessary.

Physical Requirements

• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing throughout the day
• Ability to safely maneuver equipment and products weighing up to 150 lbs.
• Comfortable working at varying heights

Schedule & Work Environment

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Typically Monday-Friday, with occasional urgent weekend repairs as needed
• Some schedules may be Tuesday-Saturday
• Work in a shop and yard environment, including occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions
