Job summary

Sysco Foods is seeking a skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician to provide safe, reliable and cost-efficient vehicle maintenance. You will perform preventive inspections, diagnose issues, and complete repairs to prevent breakdowns on road and improve fleet reliability.

Responsibilities include supervising when managers are unavailable, mentoring technicians, and ensuring timely communication with the fleet supervisor.

Qualifications

• Heavy-duty truck technical training completed.
• High school diploma required.
• CDL preferred but not required.
• Experience: 4–5 years in fleet maintenance and repair; leadership is a plus.
• Familiarity with DOT/FMCSA regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise fleet maintenance when the fleet supervisor or manager is unavailable.
• Mentor technicians I and II to higher responsibilities.
• Communicate clearly with fleet supervisor on a daily basis.
• Perform inspections and preventive maintenance within planned time tolerances.
• Diagnose malfunctions and repair to manufacturer specifications (engines, transmissions, HVAC, etc.).
• Address driver vehicle inspection report write-ups promptly.
• Learn Sysco computer programs and document work on work orders.

JOB SUMMARY

To provide safe, reliable and cost-efficient vehicles by performing quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs as well as performing expert diagnosis and repair as required to prevent breakdowns on road, reduce vehicle downtime and improve total fleet reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs supervisory roles when the fleet supervisors or manager is not accessible.
• Mentor, teach and share expertise with the fleet technician I and II to aid in their development to positions of greater responsibility.
• Expressed desire to advance to management positions of greater authority.
• Demonstrates clear and concise decision-making skills related to fleet repair and availability of fleet for operations teams.
• Provides clear communication and reporting to the fleet supervisor or manager on a daily basis.
• Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles within planned time tolerances.
• Maximize the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
• Perform FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections in accordance with all federal, state and local legal and regulatory agencies. (Includes all state-required inspections and frequencies).
• Address all driver vehicle inspection report write ups timely, and efficiently.
• Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications including but not limited to transport refrigeration systems, engines, transmissions and clutches, drive-line, differential, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition system, exhaust systems (including regeneration systems), intake systems, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC and Refrigeration systems and lift-gate hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Follow procedures including documenting all work performed on work order using complaint, cause, and correction format.
• Learn and develop efficiency in Sysco computer programs
• Operates competently within designated parameters and communicates upward before exceeding those parameters.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Heavy Duty truck technical training
• High school diploma required
• Current and valid driver's license (CDL Preferred, Not Required)

Experience

• 2-year school and 4 years of experience or
• 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair
• 1-year experience in a leadership role (preferred)

Certifications, Licenses and/or Registrations

• Annual Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Brake Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• ASE certifications & Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks (Preferred, Not Required)
• Mobile Refrigeration (EPA 608) Type II Certification preferred.
• Mobile Air Conditioning (EPA 609) Certification preferred.
• Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers
• The technician must provide own tools (diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by Sysco) necessary to perform all maintenance repair and diagnostics

Physical Demands
