City of Las Cruces is seeking a full-time automotive technician to perform general and routine maintenance on gasoline, CNG, and diesel vehicles. Work in a warehouse environment and follow safety standards.
You will inspect belts, hoses, tires, and perform oil/filter changes, minor welding, and keep mileage/service records. A valid driver’s license is required; NM Class B CDL with Passenger and Air Endorsement must be obtained within six months of hire. Team oriented with multi-tasking ability.
Performs general and routine maintenance and repair services for various types of vehicles and related equipment which utilize gasoline, CNG, and diesel fuels.
Work is performed in a warehouse or workshop environment with exposure to vehicles fumes, dirt, grease, and vehicle fluids.
Heavy physical demands. Frequent use of cleaning and mechanical equipment. Heavy physical work involving lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.

This position is graded BC06.
No specific education requirement and one (1) year in automotive and/or heavy equipment repair and/or servicing. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Valid Class D driver’s license is required. Must obtain a valid NM Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement within six (6) months of hire date. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policies.
