The Fleet Service Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing and performing necessary maintenance and repairs for CoServ’s light and heavy-duty vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment as assigned. Perform light and heavy-duty preventive maintenance such as changing oil, checking and refilling other vehicle fluids, replacing filters, and inspecting and replacing lights and wipers, cleaning and lubricating components of a vehicle, trailer, and construction equipment. Perform light and heavy-duty repairs such as brakes, exhaust system, diagnosis, tire service and repair, and other mechanical repairs.

Primary Position Responsibilities
  • Perform work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with industry best practices.
  • Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair gas and diesel automotive systems.
  • Communicate directly with the Fleet Coordinator (FC)/Manager (FM) so they can be informed if any additional service is needed.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation.
  • Inspect and test new vehicles and record findings so that necessary repairs can be made.
  • Continue ongoing company and manufacturing training to stay current with changing technology and new vehicle models.
  • Performs light and heavy-duty tire diagnostic and repair.
  • Dismount, replace, mount and reprogram tires.
  • Performs Fleet Preventive Maintenance (PM) services and performs multipoint inspections on light and heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment.
  • Coordinates appointments with drivers for light and heavy-duty vehicle service.
  • Assists the Fleet Coordinator in preparing service schedules for construction equipment, light, and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Completes Service Requests in accordance with established Fleet Management (FM) processes.
  • Cleans and maintains fleet facilities.
  • Updates vehicle service files in Fleet Work Management System (WMS).
  • Installs, maintains, and replaces vehicle branding, unit identification, safety equipment and GPS systems on all vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment.
  • Performs the inspections and records such inspections for construction equipment, light, and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Road tests light and heavy-duty vehicles as needed to ensure repairs are completed properly.
  • Communicates additional service/repair needs to FM/FC.
  • Services universal joints, grease fittings, and steering knuckles using hand- or compressed-air powered grease guns and/or tools.
  • Inspects fluid levels in steering gears, power steering reservoirs, transmissions, differentials, rear axle housings and shackles on construction equipment, light, and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel emission systems.
  • Checks tire pressure, rotate tires, repair tires, and replace tires.
  • Lubricates moving parts with specified lubricants.
  • Drains oil from crankcase and refills with required amount of oil.
  • Repair and maintains construction equipment, light, and heavy-duty coolant systems.
  • Replaces oil, fuel, cabin, and air filters on construction equipment, light, and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Inspects all vehicles for additional repairs in accordance with Fleet Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Maintain and clean garage equipment and tools to ensure they are kept in a safe and operable condition at all times.
  • Assess light and heavy-duty vehicles and/or construction equipment to accurately diagnose and repair issues.
  • Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
  • Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities
  • Communicates regularly with Fleet staff.
  • Attends/completes required safety training.
  • Attends CoServ University training as required.
  • Attends approved professional development conferences, seminars, and workshops to maintain knowledge on all industry relevant publications.
  • Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Position Requirements
Experience, Education and Certifications Required
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
  • At least six (6) years of experience as a light and/or heavy-duty mechanic.
  • Knowledge in all aspects of gas and diesel repair and maintenance.
  • Fast, eager learner and team player.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills and willingness to learn new programs.
  • Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment for light and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • In depth knowledge of gas and diesel electronics.
  • Have an ASE certificate and great communication skills.
Experience, Education and Certifications Preferred
  • Other certifications or licenses as may be required by state law.
  • One (1) year operating electric utility vehicles or equivalent.
  • One (1) year operating other electric field equipment, such as trenching equipment, vacuum equipment, hole digging equipment, aerial lifts, etc.
  • Prior experience electric and gas utility vehicle repair and maintenance preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge with all aspects of construction equipment, light, and heavy-duty vehicle repair/maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • At least six (6) years of experience at auto dealership or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of state and federal motor carrier regulations.
  • Knowledge of the automotive service and repair trade to include both mechanical and electrical systems of automobiles, diesel, and light trucks.
Physical Requirements
  • Works both in the office, shop and outdoors.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.
  • Requires a significant amount of walking and/or standing. May also require working in the seated position for long periods while operating controls with arms and legs.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, stooping and bending.
Other Requirements
  • Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Class A Texas Commercial Driver’s License if needed.
