Job summary

Galveston County Health District seeks an experienced Fleet Mobile Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair fleet vehicles and equipment for the Galveston Area Ambulance Authority (GAAA). You will perform preventive maintenance, coordinate repairs with service vendors, and keep accurate fleet records to ensure operational readiness.

This hands-on role requires strong mechanical skills, the ability to work with multiple vehicle manufacturers, and a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of mechanical experience.
• 2+ years with multiple vehicle manufacturers (e.g., Dodge, Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota).
• Experience repairing gasoline/diesel engines and trailers.
• Experience with vehicle preventive maintenance and oil changes.
• Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle systems with diagnostic equipment.
• Car porter experience preferred; fleet experience a plus.
• Valid Texas driver’s license for operated vehicles/equipment.
• Strong organizational, customer service, and MS Office skills.
• Able to work independently, respond to on-call needs, and work evenings or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine repairs.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, cooling, fuel, exhaust, and transmission systems.
• Coordinate repairs with service shops, vendors, and EMS leadership.
• Monitor maintenance schedules, recalls, inspections, and warranties.
• Maintain repair logs, fleet databases, and dashboards.
• Review pre-trip inspections and coordinate vehicle transport to repair facilities.
• Perform wiring repairs and install vehicle trackers as needed.
• Support fleet safety, vendor coordination, and emergency response activities.
