Job summary

Lees Summit R-7 School District TRANSPORTATION is seeking a Mechanic for the 2026-27 school year to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on district vehicles. The role requires diagnosing issues, performing routine service, and maintaining records to ensure fleet safety and regulatory compliance.

The position reports to the Shop Supervisor and demands availability for 24/7 road calls, with ASE certifications and a CDL endorsement. Compensation includes hourly pay and benefits as applicable.

Qualifications

• Adhere to safety practices and operate school buses/district vehicles.
• Keyboarding and standard office software; maintain accurate records.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance methods and handling hazardous materials.
• Adapt to changing priorities; communicate with diverse groups; meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose vehicle malfunctions to determine needed repairs or replacements.
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on buses and district vehicles.
• Fabricate parts and maintain tools and shop area for efficiency and safety.
• Inspect vehicles for safe operating condition (brakes, fluids, tires, etc.).
• Maintain repair logs, parts lists, and warranty claims.
