Job summary

The City of Norwalk is seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to repair, maintain, and overhaul diesel and gasoline vehicles and equipment. You will diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, perform routine maintenance, and assist with snow and ice control operations when needed.

Qualified candidates have four years of automotive experience, a CT CDL Class A or B, and must obtain ASE certification in diesel engines within 180 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or trade/vocational training in automotive repair.
• Four years of automotive mechanic experience.
• Valid CT CDL Class A or B license; ASE diesel certification within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel and gasoline vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
• Overhaul engines, transmissions, electrical, hydraulic, and braking systems.
• Use hand tools and power equipment to repair or replace parts.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire balancing, and tune-ups.
• Inspect bodies and equipment, weld as needed, and ensure safety compliance.
