Job summary

The City of Scottsdale is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of municipal vehicles, including light and heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines, and transit buses.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least five years of automotive/mechanical experience; candidates with ASE/EVT certifications may qualify for extra compensation. Starting salary is $32.26/hour, with full benefits and opportunities for certification bonuses.

Summary

The Fleet Mechanic classification performs maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of automotive, heavy-duty truck and equipment, and transit buses.

The Fleet Mechanic performs skilled diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of municipal vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position services gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, light and heavy-duty trucks, emergency response vehicles, construction equipment, transit buses and other municipal fleet assets. The Fleet Mechanic works independently and as part of a team while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and customer service.

Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity.
The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this

position is $32.26 per hour or $67,100.80 annually.

The City of Scottsdale Fleet department is committed to hiring and maintaining a high-performance team. In an effort to do so, we offer a competitive additional compensation program for those who have and maintain current and qualifying ASE and EVT Certifications as well as reimburse for passed qualifying ASE/EVT Certification testing. Employees can earn up to an additional $5,000 annually for certifications above and beyond what is required for the position. This program is based on budget availability each fiscal year.

Examples of duties
Education and Experience
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Must possess training, education and experience equivalent to five years in diverse automotive, heavy-duty truck and equipment or transit bus mechanics and maintenance.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Must possess, and maintain in working condition throughout tenure, a complete set of hand and power tools in compliance with the Fleet Minimum Inventory Requirement.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.
