Job summary

Dollar General is seeking an experienced fleet mechanic to ensure all trucks, trailers, and yard tractors are safe, compliant, and in working order at the Westville, IN location. You will diagnose, repair, and perform PMs on heavy equipment and assist drivers with ongoing issues.

Responsibilities include maintaining class 8 trucks, wiring, electrical and air brake systems, and performing DOT inspections while upholding safety standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems is required.
• Welding and fabrication experience is preferred.
• Mechanical skills for trucks and trailers are essential.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair truck, trailer components such as doors, floors, side panels, electrical and air brake systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
• Perform maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability on fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and company-owned equipment.
• Abide by all company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist drivers with addressing outstanding vehicle issues.
• Maintain repairs for class 8 trucks, trailers and yard tractors.
• Safely operate gauges, forklifts, shunt truck, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
• Performs DOT inspections and compliancy.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Ensures alltrucks, trailers and yard tractors are in working order and are compliant to federal standards.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Prior welding and fabrication experience preferred.
• Tire repair experience (repair, mounting, dismounting) preferred.

• Conducts some repairs in odd positions and/or confined or close spaces
• Work is performed under changing climatic conditions of extreme heat and cold
