Job summary

Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus in Grants Pass, OR is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on our fleet vehicles. You will work under the Lead Fleet Mechanic and BMFA Operations Control, handling inspections and field service as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma, four years of Class C mechanic experience, and a valid driver's license. ASE/EVT certifications are preferred and willingness to obtain them.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Four years of verifiable experience as a Class C - Associate Mechanic, and automotive knowledge and skills necessary to perform maintenance and repairs on company vehicles
  • Preferred ASE and EVT Certifications; must be willing to obtain them
  • Must have a current and valid Driver's License; CDL preferred but not required
  • Must have a full set of personal tools needed to complete basic automotive repairs: a comprehensive hand tool set

Responsibilities

  • Perform front line mechanical inspections and preventive maintenance on diesel and gasoline vehicles.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns in the field when requested.
  • Document repairs and maintenance using BMFA repair work orders and Fleet Maintenance Software.
  • Diagnose issues promptly and perform quality repairs.
  • Document labor hours, parts, and materials used for each job.
  • Provide professional customer service and maintain good relations with fleet/operations personnel.
  • Identify and report safety concerns to Fleet Supervision.
  • Rotating On-Call shifts.
  • Assist with parts ordering and light administrative duties.

Job description

About the position:

Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus (BMFA) is hiring a Fleet Mechanic who provides preventive maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles as assigned by the Lead Fleet Mechanic and BMFA Operations Control.

Pay Range:

$24 - $29 per hour

Responsibilities:
  • Perform front line mechanical inspections, preventive maintenance and electrical repairs on both diesel and gasoline vehicles per Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus (BMFA) Policy and Procedures
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns in the field when requested
  • Complete all required vehicle repair and maintenance paperwork and documentation using BMFA repair work orders and BMFA Fleet Maintenance Software
  • Respond promptly to road calls, accurately diagnose, and perform quality repairs
  • Thoroughly document vehicle repairs and maintenance including a complete accounting of all labor hours, parts, and materials used
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a respectful working relationship with all fleet and operations personnel; display professional conduct with outside suppliers and contacts
  • Identify and report existing and potential safety concerns to Fleet Supervision
  • Rotating On-Call shifts
  • Shared responsibility of parts ordering and research
  • Shared responsibility of light administrative duties
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Must have four years of verifiable experience as a Class C - Associate Mechanic, and automotive knowledge and skills necessary to perform maintenance and repairs on company vehicles
  • Preferred to have ASE and/or EVT Certifications
    • Must be willing to obtain ASE and EVT Certifications
  • Must have a current and valid Driver's License
    • CDL preferred but not required
  • Must have a full set of personal tools needed to complete basic automotive repairs:
    • Ratchets: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" Drive
    • Sockets: SAE and Metric, Standard and Deep
    • Extensions: Short, Medium, Long - 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" Drive
    • 1/2" Drive Impact Wrench that can R &R wheels
    • Combination Wrenches: 1/4" thru 1-1/8" and 6MM thru 24MM
    • Screwdrivers: Flat blade, small/med/large & Phillips, 0, #1, #2
    • Pliers: Channel lock, long nose, linesman, wire strippers, crimpers
    • Punches: Straight, Center Punch, chisels
    • Hammers: Ball pein, dead blow, soft, sledge
    • Pickle Forks
    • Oil Filter Wrench
    • Test light, LED (Power probe or similar is fine)
    • Multimeter: Voltage-OHMS-AMPS
    • Mechanics Toolbox on Wheels
