Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of fleet, heavy-duty truck, diesel maintenance, transportation, or related experience preferred.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 To $90,000.00 Annually

Atlas Fuel Services is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the maintenance, reliability, compliance, and overall performance of our fleet operations based in Taylor, Michigan.

The Fleet Manager will be responsible for ensuring company vehicles and equipment are safe, compliant, properly maintained, and available to support daily operations. This position will oversee preventive maintenance programs, repairs, inspections, vendors, fleet costs, equipment records, and the overall condition and lifecycle of fleet assets.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with strong experience managing commercial vehicles and heavy‑duty equipment in a transportation, fuel distribution, logistics, or similar environment.

Manage the day‑to‑day maintenance and overall readiness of the company fleet vehicles and equipment.

Develop, manage, and monitor preventive maintenance schedules to maximize vehicle uptime and minimize unplanned repairs.

Ensure fleet vehicles meet applicable DOT, FMCSA, state, company, and safety requirements.

Maintain accurate records for vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, registrations, permits, warranties, and other required fleet documentation.

Monitor DVIRs and ensure reported defects and safety concerns are addressed promptly.

Coordinate scheduled and emergency repairs with internal mechanics and outside vendors.

Oversee and support maintenance personnel, including work assignments, priorities, productivity, and quality of repairs.

Monitor fleet availability and communicate equipment issues that could impact operations.

Track vehicle downtime, maintenance costs, repair trends, and recurring mechanical issues.

Analyze fleet data and develop recommendations to improve reliability, safety, utilization, and operating costs.

Manage relationships with dealerships, repair facilities, parts suppliers, tire vendors, towing companies, and other fleet service providers.

Review repair estimates and invoices to ensure accuracy and cost effectiveness.

Maintain appropriate inventory levels for commonly used parts, supplies, and equipment.

Assist with annual fleet budgeting and monitor maintenance expenses against budget.

Evaluate aging and high‑cost equipment and make recommendations regarding repair, replacement, or disposal.

Assist with specifications and acquisition of new trucks, trailers, and fleet equipment.

Coordinate new vehicle preparation, inspections, licensing, equipment installation, and placement into service.

Partner with Operations, Safety, Logistics, and other departments to ensure fleet needs are met.

Support accident and equipment‑damage investigations as needed.

Identify opportunities to improve fleet processes, maintenance practices, technology, and cost controls.

Ensure the fleet and maintenance areas are maintained in a safe, organized, and professional condition.

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of fleet, heavy‑duty truck, diesel maintenance, transportation, or related experience preferred.

Prior fleet management, maintenance management, shop management, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.

Experience with commercial trucks, tractors, trailers, tankers, and/or heavy‑duty diesel equipment preferred.

Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and commercial vehicle inspection requirements.

Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and commercial vehicle safety requirements.

Experience managing outside vendors and controlling fleet maintenance costs.

Ability to analyze maintenance records, repair histories, vehicle downtime, and fleet performance.

Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.

Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with mechanics, drivers, operations leaders, vendors, and senior management.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet maintenance/management systems.

Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
