Job summary

Waste Pro of Louisiana is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager for our Bayou Country division to lead maintenance operations, ensure vehicle readiness, and manage budgets across the fleet. You will partner with regional teams to drive cost-effective maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance (DOT/EPA/OSHA).

The role demands hands-on leadership, strong vendor relations, and a focus on data-driven performance improvements.

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• 15+ years of progressive hands-on experience in fleet management (preferred in Waste Services).
• Solid project management, resource planning, oral and written communication skills.
• Specialized understanding of maintenance procedures and regulations (EPA, DOT, OSHA).
• Ability to manage complex and dynamic situations with strategic/tactical priorities.
• High autonomy with team orientation and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proficiency with computers and maintenance software (e.g. Dossier) and MS Office.
• Strong analytical skills in research, interpretation, data management and reporting.
• Experience leading indirect/cross-functional teams.
• Ability to drive cost-effective resource management.

Responsibilities

• Hire, train, coach, and schedule maintenance staff; manage overtime.
• Maintain preventive/corrective maintenance programs and standards.
• Review road calls, breakdowns, parts, repairs, and safety performance.
• Provide hands-on maintenance assistance as needed.
• Educate drivers on DVIRs, fleet operation, and CDL basics.
• Ensure maintenance data is entered into the vehicle maintenance system.
• Monitor inventory, costs, and performance; manage divisional budgets.
• Assist in purchasing vehicles, equipment, tools, and containers.
• Establish maintenance training to improve fleet condition and knowledge.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA regulations; coordinate with Safety teams.
• Verify regulatory implementations and monitor conformance.
• Ensure efficient utilization and readiness of fleet; maintain accurate asset reports.
• Manage fleet maintenance budgets and cost controls.
• Implement all maintenance activities (Pre/Post trips, tires, etc.).
• Coordinate equipment movement between divisions; ensure proper inspections.
• Evaluate body damage and equipment performance; manage vendor relations.
• Analyze service issues and perform root cause analysis; suggest remediation.
• Support metrics and online/offline diagnostic reporting for fleet performance.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Maintenance Manager plans, organizes and supervises the Division's maintenance staff and functions. This management position holds responsibly for overall fleet/equipment support and associated maintenance processes that include inspection, repair, pre/post servicing, vehicle distribution, quality assurance and disposal at the Division level. This manager will work in partnership with the Regional Maintenance Manager and Operations teams to ensure overall fleet condition, equipment reliability, safety and cost effective fleet performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. 1. Manages departmental hiring, training, coaching, performance management, discipline, scheduling of work assignments, and overtime authorization.
2. 2. Maintains an ongoing preventive/corrective maintenance program which sets the standard for service excellence.
3. 3. Reviews status reports including road calls, breakdowns, parts inventory, repairs, and safety performance.
4. 4. Provides hands-on maintenance assistance as needed.
5. 5. Education of driver responsibilities as it relates to DVIR's, operation of fleet vehicles, and basic CDL requirements.
6. 6. Assures all maintenance-related data is available for input in the vehicle maintenance system.
7. 7. Monitor Dossier efficiencies to include inventory control, goals for improved performance, monitoring, measuring and reporting.
8. 8. Assists in purchasing of new vehicles, equipment, tools and containers.
9. 9. Responsible for establishing maintenance related training sessions that improve overall fleet condition and operational knowledge of drivers, mechanics, and shop personnel.
10. 10. Administer and monitor regional adherence to federal and state programs, and oversees maintenance in accordance with EPA and other mandatory regulations.
11. 11. Verifies implementations of required DOT, OSHA, EPA regulations and monitors conformance as required on an ongoing basis. Coordinate efforts with local Safety, Corporate Safety and Regional Maintenance Manager.
12. 12. Ensuring efficient utilization, vehicle maintenance quality, and transportation to ready-lines.
13. 13. Fleet inventory/condition reporting, including out of service listing, matched to asset list.
14. 14. Manages divisional maintenance budgets.
15. 15. Responsible for implementation/monitoring of all fleet maintenance activities (e.g.Pre/Post pre-trip, safety lane, warranty recovery, tire standards, oil/lubricants, major component failure, and all new initiatives).
16. 16. Facilitate movement of equipment between division ensuring proper inspections and delivery of equipment in ready condition.
17. 17. Evaluate body damage estimates as it relates to maintenance and fleet functions; manages cost controls and enhances vendor service.
18. 18. Evaluate equipment performance and recommend modifications and/or alternate vendors based on maintenance/costing information.
19. 19. Analyze service issues related to fleet maintenance and performs root cause analysis, recommends remediation methodologies and escalates as needed to address issues.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

• * Must have a valid Driver's License.
• * CDL license preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

2. Requires 15+ years of progressive hands-on experience in fleet management (Preferred background in Waste Services, Transportation, Maintenance, Parts administration)
3. Solid project management, resource planning, oral and written communication skills.
4. Specialized understanding of maintenance procedures and general knowledge of industry regulations (e.g. EPA, DOT, OSHA).
5. Ability to manage complex and dynamic situations requiring a well developed sense of strategic and tactical priorities.
6. High degree of autonomy, yet team oriented with ability to work cross-functionally within a matrix organization.
7. Skilled in planning, implementing goals required in the cost effective management of allocated resources
8. Basic understanding of accounting principals
9. Attention to detail with demonstrated ability to produce accurate and consistent work quality.
10. Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and maintenance software programs (e.g. Dossier, etc.).

12. Experience managing and/or working as member of indirect/cross-functional team.
