Job summary

First Student in Racine, Wisconsin is seeking a Shop Manager to lead maintenance operations and supervise shop staff. You will report to the Location Manager and ensure safe, efficient service of the fleet supporting the local school district.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience, a valid driver's license (CDL encouraged), and strong communication. This full-time position offers comprehensive benefits, holidays, PTO, and 401(k) with competitive salary.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver’s license; willingness to obtain CDL with company training.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 20 to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and administers fleet maintenance, coordinating with dispatch and other operations personnel.
  • Oversees shop staff, including hiring, firing, salary adjustments, training and performance reviews.
  • Reviews maintenance status, budget variances, and repair orders; approves accounts payable documents.
  • Ensures compliance with state, federal and company requirements; maintains a safe working environment.
  • Reviews repair orders, orders parts and subcontracted work as needed.
  • Initiates and implements projects to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Trains maintenance technicians on procedures and safety; ensures proper equipment and motivation.
