Job summary

The City of Burlington is seeking an Equipment Services Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of city vehicles and heavy equipment. You will diagnose mechanical issues, perform repairs, and ensure fleet reliability and safety across departments.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience with heavy trucks and equipment, a valid NC driver’s license, and the ability to work in a dynamic city fleet environment. Training and advancement opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency required.
• Extensive experience with heavy-duty tractors, loaders, and large diesel/truck equipment.
• Valid NC Driver’s license; CDL before 12 months preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, and repair heavy trucks, trailers, and related equipment to keep fleet in safe, reliable condition.
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic systems and recommend life cycle actions for fleet efficiency.
• Utilize fleet maintenance software to document repairs and service history.
