Job description

Under direct supervision, this position performs routine maintenance and repair services on different types of vehicles. (All safety and DOT-related work must be checked off and documented for the first three times performed.)


Works with the assistance of a Fleet Maintenance Technician, Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician, Fleet Supervisor, or Fleet Manager when performing technical and diagnostic repairs.


The FMT-1 Technician's tasks are directed by shop management to develop skills and experience. Performs basic vehicle maintenance, component replacements, minor repairs, preventive maintenance with training, facility maintenance duties, uses shop management and electronic systems, diagnoses minor mechanical and electronic problems, uses diagnostic computers, identifies root causes of minor failures, interacts with drivers to determine issues, and complies with all safety, federal, state, and corporate guidelines. Requires at least 1 year of experience in transportation maintenance or related classroom training or work experience in mechanical repairs on heavy and medium-duty equipment.


  • Maintain equipment to desired performance levels.
  • Complete work orders promptly with high quality standards.
  • Inform management of safety, operator, and equipment concerns.
  • Perform prescribed Preventative Maintenance.
  • Accurately complete all paperwork as per SOPs.
  • Document all required information thoroughly.
  • Assist in process improvements using a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work area.
  • Follow all safety practices, including PPE, confined space safety, chemical handling, and fall restraints.
  • Responsible for food safety, prerequisites, and food quality in the designated area.
  • Report food safety and quality issues immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • No experience required with certification; 1 year experience without certification required.
  • Mechanic certifications and CDL-A preferred. 1 year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform basic math operations.
  • Refrigeration license preferred.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach, and crawl during the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist others with lifting. Manipulation of tools and components required.
  • Must be computer literate, experienced with engine, ABS, transmission diagnostics, etc.
