Job summary

GMB Powerline Services is seeking a Fleet Coordinator in West Virginia to manage daily readiness and deployment of our fleet of vehicles and equipment for project work and storm response. You will inspect, document, and coordinate maintenance to keep assets ready and compliant while supporting rapid deployment across regions.

Work with Operations, Safety, and field leadership to track locations, plan transfers, and optimize fleet utilization.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Business, Logistics, Transportation, Fleet Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in fleet coordination, transportation operations, or logistics.
  • Experience with DOT and FMCSA requirements is a plus.
  • Experience using fleet management software and asset-tracking tools.

  • Coordinate daily assignment and deployment of vehicles, trailers, and equipment for projects and storm response.
  • Ensure fleet is operational, properly stocked, and ready to meet schedules.
  • Maintain visibility of fleet availability across regions and coordinate transfers.

Position Summary:

The Fleet Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily readiness, deployment, and utilization of GMB Powerline Services' fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role ensures trucks, trailers, and equipment are inspected, properly documented, maintained, and ready to support both scheduled project work and emergency storm response operations. The Fleet Coordinator works closely with Operations, Fleet Maintenance, Safety, and field leadership to coordinate fleet movements, monitor inspections and compliance requirements, track asset locations, and maintain a high level of fleet preparedness across all company divisions.

Key duties and responsibilities:
Fleet Readiness and Operational Support
  • Coordinate the daily assignment and deployment of vehicles, trailers, and equipment to support project and storm restoration operations.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are operational, properly stocked, and ready to meet scheduled work requirements.
  • Maintain visibility of fleet availability and readiness across all operating regions.
  • Coordinate equipment transfers and fleet movements between projects, service centers, and storm response locations.
  • Communicate fleet availability, readiness concerns, and operational impacts to field and corporate leadership.
  • Support after-hours fleet coordination efforts during emergency and storm response events.
Vehicle Inspections and Preventive Maintenance
  • Conduct and document routine vehicle and equipment readiness inspections.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate service appointments to ensure timely completion.
  • Partner with the Mechanic Shop Foreman to prioritize repair work and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Track vehicle defects, maintenance concerns, and repair status to ensure fleet reliability.
  • Verify vehicles and equipment meet company safety and operational standards before deployment.
Fleet Safety and Compliance
  • Maintain vehicle records, inspection documentation, registrations, permits, and licensing requirements.
  • Support compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company fleet policies.
  • Assist with maintaining driver qualification files and required fleet documentation.
  • Monitor vehicle inspection and maintenance records to ensure compliance requirements are met.
  • Participate in fleet safety initiatives, audits, and corrective action programs.
  • Identify and report safety concerns related to vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
Asset Tracking & Inventory Management
  • Utilize GPS, telematics, and asset tracking systems to monitor fleet activity and equipment locations.
  • Maintain accurate records for company vehicles, trailers, equipment, and assigned assets.
  • Track equipment utilization and support efforts to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Conduct periodic inventory audits and asset verification activities.
  • Ensure all fleet records are current and accurately reflected within fleet management systems.
  • Coordinate fleet mobilization and demobilization activities for storm restoration events.
  • Assist with assembling and deploying equipment packages required for emergency response operations.
  • Monitor fleet readiness levels to ensure rapid deployment capabilities during outages and emergency situations.
  • Work closely with Operations and Fleet leadership to prioritize resources during storm events.
  • Support emergency fleet logistics and equipment staging efforts as needed.
Reporting & Administrative Support
  • Prepare fleet utilization, maintenance, and readiness reports.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to fleet activities, maintenance schedules, and asset assignments.
  • Assist with vendor coordination for maintenance, repairs, rentals, and fleet services.
  • Support budgeting and cost-tracking activities by maintaining accurate fleet records and reporting data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve fleet efficiency, reliability, and operational readiness.
Other:
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals, including tasks outside of the primary job function as operational needs evolve.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Business, Logistics, Transportation, Fleet Management, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in fleet coordination, transportation operations, equipment management, logistics, or related field.
  • Experience working with commercial vehicles, utility equipment, or construction fleets preferred.Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA compliance requirements.
  • Experience utilizing fleet management, GPS, telematics, or asset tracking software.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of fleet operations, vehicle inspections, and maintenance coordination.
  • Experience with fleet management software, telematics, GPS tracking, and asset management systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to analyze fleet utilization and readiness data.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

Travel Requirements:

This role requires up to 25% travel, including overnight travel and occasional short-notice travel during storm or emergency response events. Travel may include visits to project sites, storm locations, utility partners, and corporate offices. A valid driver’s license and ability to travel by vehicle and air are required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and operate office equipment.
  • Ability to inspect vehicles, trailers, and equipment in both shop and field environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clear driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions when necessary.
  • Ability to support emergency storm response operations, including extended hours as business needs require.
Storm Duty & Operational Support Requirement

As a company supporting critical infrastructure and emergency response operations, all employees share a responsibility to support storm restoration and emergency response efforts when activated. Storm duty may require extended hours, travel to affected areas, and temporary reassignment of duties to meet operational needs. While on storm duty, employees may be required to assist in functions outside of their regular role or department to support restoration, logistics, safety, or administrative efforts. Flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to respond where needed are essential components of employment.
