Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced pilot to ensure airworthiness and safe transport of medical crews within an assigned area. You will perform pre‑flight inspections, walk‑arounds, and sign the Daily Flight Log, holding final authority for operations and safety.

Required are substantial flight hours, instrument and multi‑engine ratings, and an FAA medical certificate. The role calls for strict adherence to FAR/AIM/GOM and company policies, with frequent planning and cross‑country flights.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school and two to five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Pilots must have flown in the required category within the previous 24 months.
  • 2500 total flight hours with a minimum of 2000 flight hours in the required category.
  • 1000 hours PIC in the required category.
  • 500 hours of cross‑country flight time, at least 50 hours of which were at night.
  • 500 hours of turbine time.
  • 100 hours night flight time.
  • 100 hours of flight in actual instrument conditions in the required category.
  • Instrument rating for the required category and class of aircraft (an ATP rating in the required category meets this requirement).
  • Fixed‑wing multiengine rating is required for twin‑engine aircraft.
  • Commercial single‑engine land rating is required for single‑engine aircraft.
  • First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a complete walk‑around of the aircraft before cockpit entry and after flight.
  • Hold final authority regarding aircraft operations and safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
  • Be familiar with backup aircraft systems and ensure medical team is comfortable with interior and systems.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards.
  • Participate in meetings, projects, committees, and community outreach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Ensure aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to transport medical crew and patients to the receiving hospital within an assigned operational area.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM), and thorough knowledge of Air Methods policies and procedures.
  • Complete pre‑flight inspection before every flight, verifying the aircraft is in an airworthy condition by signing off the Daily Flight Log.
  • Perform a complete walk‑around of the aircraft prior to entering the cockpit for flight and upon completion of each flight.
  • Hold final authority regarding aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized in the operational area and ensure that the medical flight team is familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards.
  • Participate regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
