Job summary

Alamo Structural Steel is seeking a skilled Fitter/Welder to fabricate a variety of metal projects in our Texas shop. You will cut, tack weld, and assemble parts using flame-cutting and welding equipment to ensure precise fit and high-quality fabrication.

You will read blueprints, maintain the work area, and perform FCAW/SMAW welding. The position includes a day shift (Mon-Fri 6:00am-2:30pm) with a weekend shift differential of $3 per hour for weekend hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; structural welding experience preferred.
• Ability to pass a fillet weld test.
• Knowledge of FCAW & SMAW welding processes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
• Maintain, organize, and keep work area and equipment in operating condition.
• Hand-weld and/or flame-cut equipment to join metal components.
• Cut and scarf using an oxy-acetylene torch.
• Structural welding using FCAW & SMAW.
• Align and fit parts according to specifications.
• Remove high spots and bevels as needed.

Job Description

As a Fitter/Welder, you will be responsible for fabricating a wide range of miscellaneous metal projects. This includes cutting and welding metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment.

Minimum Starting Salary: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour - depending on experience

Shifts Available:
Day Shift: Monday - Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm
Weekends: Friday - Sunday 5:00am-5:30pm - you work 36hrs, get paid for 40hrs as long as you work the full scheduled shift. Plus a $3.00 shift differential for every hour associated with the Weekend Shift.
Essential Functions:

• Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
• Maintain, organize, and keep work area and equipment in operating condition.
• Hand-weld and/or flame-cut equipment to join metal components.
• Cut and scarf using an oxy-acetylene torch.
• Structural welding using FCAW & SMAW.
• Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
• Properly assemble and disassemble weld setups.
• Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
• Reshape metal workpieces to establish specifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of metal and basic shop fabrication equipment.
• Knowledge and proficiency in MIG welding with the ability to pass a welding test.
• Knowledge of TIG welding is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Ability to withstand pressure and adapt to change.
• Ability to multi-task while meeting strict deadlines.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Experience in a structural welding environment is preferred
• Ability to pass a Fillet Weld Test.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
• Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
